Fernwisp Species in Pathfinder 2e Project | World Anvil

Fernwisp

In the dense jungles of Setica lies the mischievous Fernwisp. The Fernwisp is a small, ghostly impish entity that floats through the trees, blending in with the slivers of moonlight that break through the trees. While only a few feet tall, these small ghostly creatures are known to be troublesome tricksters that dart through the shadows. Their laughter comes out like crackling electricity and echoes through the dense jungle scape of the Setican Continent. However, that is not all, Fernwisps can create an uncanny imitation of any sound that a person makes, from snapping twigs to animal sounds. They can even go so far as to mimic human speech and lure people away. While the Fernwisp does not act in a malevolent way, they do act dangerously and lure people into the dark forests and jungles of the Setican Continent, away from civilization where they become dangerously close to tne natural animal and plant life of the jungle. Furthermore, Fernwisps are known to reorganize or mess around campsites, causing items to go missing or become lost. However, these Fernwisps can be extremely helpful, sometimes luring people back together or leading to civilization as well, making them more of an annoyance than anything. It is unsure where these ghostly wisps of spiritual energy come from, some suspect these are nothing more than motes of living magic that naturally occur on Setica while others fear them the spirits of a long lost civilization. Settlers used to tell stories that, if one was kind enough and was able to convince one, the fernwisps would take you to a "Fernwisp Queen" who would either marry you and take you to heaven or give you a magical and arcane gift of immense power. While there is no proof of this, there haven't been reports that denied that this has ever happened, making these creatures all the more mysterous.
