Changeling

Changelings are the strange, transformative people that exist outside of classical ancestral boundaries. Unlike the other ancestries, Changelings are hardly restricted by their physical traits as they possess the incredible and dangerous ability to transform themselves at will. Because of this, many viewed Changelings with suspicion. They existed in isolated communities in far off areas, or lived in walled off district wards within major cities. It was not until the Dark Ages that major changes were made, after the assassination of King Phelbert of Aedrian Empire by a shadowy assassin of unknown shape, many feared that the assassin was secretly a changeling. This led to widespread changeling hunts that many nobles and priests attempted to stop the spread of the chaos, but after the riots were addressed in a positive light by the Aedrian Prince, there was little that the official powers could do to stop it. Changelings were gathered up and shops were wrecked, homes burned, and whole villages assaulted. Soon, even military officers who were initially tasked to help the Changelings were consumed the chaos and, although no formal order was given, the military had marked Changelings as wanted for execution. This continued further as it spread across the Old World, eventually leading to genocides across the continent and across all nations. Many speculated that the assassination may have been caused the now dead Father Ignacio, a preacher who was executed for his crimes against the crown of Aedria, but few listened to reason. By the end of the 30 year chaos, it was suspected that most, if not all, Changelings had been killed or died in this genocide. Even today, many consider the species dead, but there are rumors and tales of their continued existence in the shadows of society, moving away from civilization or hiding just under the noses of the people of the world.
