Death to Inanimate Objects

Take that, you lousy chest!

General Summary

As they prepared to spend some time shivering on the cold metal floor, in a small room with a recently broken window, with only a single blanket between them, our protagonists decided that attempting to light a fire in what seems like a box made for such purposes (a firebox, if you will) was a good plan. They did so, and therefore managed to not freeze to death in their sleep. The elf and the gnome, strangers though they were, further decided that it was unlikely the other would murder them in their sleep, or at least decided to not worry about it. Following good adventure camping protocols, they set a watch schedule and settled down to rest as much as possible, recover spells, and try to adjust to the shock of finding themselves Somewhere Else™.   Sometime during Gnoll’s watch, Nan alerted her to trouble and she spied what appeared to be a large black rat with glowing red eyes, sitting stock still, and watching from the darkness outside. Gnoll woke up Coin, but there was nothing there. Was this just some Gnomish prank? Better to just go back to sleep.   After a “night” of rest, delving deeper into the darkness, Coin, Gnoll, and Nan found a series of carriages further down the tunnel. They explored the first one, finding a lot of practical items and that spoiled food isn’t so bad if you cast “Purify Food and Drink” on it first. Soon after, they found a store of food that wasn’t spoiled, tasty condiments, and lots of clean plates.   Random stone carvings of moles are perfectly safe, right?

Other highlights:

  • Mysterious art on the wall, psycho-neurotic writing on another wall, and books in a variety of languages.
  • Confirmation of a critical hit on an inanimate object. That chest knows what it did!
  • Perhaps Coin doesn’t like shovels? At least she knocked politely … eventually.
  • Gnoll threw caution to the wind and learned why sometimes caution is good, or at least that’s what I thought she said, it was hard to hear over that loud ringing sound.
