Session 5: A new friend and an old place

General Summary

2 luck points for session   Cleaning up - Leucis inspected the orcs, which had webs, spider bites, and several small smooshed spiders on them. The orc spellcaster had a holy symbol that looks like a bear claw, probably from a sort of war god. Nock inspected the 3 kinds of spiders - swarm of small ones, wolf spiders, and giant spiders. We haven’t seen them all together at once before, and this was the greatest concentration of them so far. Sunny searched the bugbears which were unusually not in charge. After climbing into the trees, he found a humanoid who had some money and a folding paper fan, later identified as a Wind Fan. Found a goblin and a hobgoblin together, both desiccated, in another web. Found a desiccated human in wizard robes (“Melf”) who had a spell component pouch and money, a live female halfling in studded leather (Leucis recognizes her as a ne’er-do-well from Ironmere named Jasperia) and a recently dead, incredibly pungent, young, male dwarf (Archibald, though Nock doesn’t immediately remember/recognize). There were also a dead bug. Nock digs graves for the dead dwarf and wizard, after Sunny cuts them down. Leucis watches over the halfling as she recovers from poison.   LOOT: Gold found: 165GP, 345SP, 589CP. 3 potions of minor healing, 2 empty vials, 1 antitoxin, wind fan. We take Jasperia along with us. Come across a pond, which was made by magic, but is no longer magical. The ruins are up the hill from there; Leucis checks the door of the ruins for magical auras, but nothing was apparent. Jasperia tried to fish, but didn’t catch anything. We set up camp within the edge of the woods, and the watches pass quietly. Enter ruins, order: Jasperia, Leucis, Sunny, Nock   Jasperia borrows Nock’s bulls-eye lantern to lead the way. We head through the open door, down a 60-70’ ramp. The stone walls and floor are completely smooth, either made by magic or great skill.   First room has a moon-glow fountain in the middle, a greeting carved in the wall in 3 languages ("The Llyrian druids welcome our friends from distant lands. Please see an attendant in the room to your right."), a magic clock carved into an adjacent wall that shows the position of the sun and the moon as they are currently. Also a carved moon on a wall next to the incoming door that only has the dark part represented by jet black stone, with the “light” side matching the same rock as the wall. It did not respond to placing the Llyrian charm against it. There’s a hall leading off the west side, a small hall on the SE side, and a door leading to the east. Lots of old spiderwebs on the ceiling.   A small room in the SE has a desk and must have been the reception area, with storage containers of water, (rotten) food, lantern oil, and lanterns. A desk is relatively empty and in disrepair. We valiantly vanquish violent violet fungi in this room.   A door on the east side goes down a hallway to a storage room. The room has many crates and some broken ones as well. Definitely smell something in here that’s been rotting, as well as empty spiderwebs on the ceiling. The main party members all investigate crates and find different things: The breaking crate and glass vials made a lot of noise, but nothing immediately reacted in the vicinity. The stuff Nock was able to catch:
  1. A vial of sparkling clear liquid. Potion of Aqueous Form
  2. Dark red flecks within a potion, resembling clotted blood. Blood of the Lycanthrope Antidote
  3. A clear concoction with bits of salt and soot swirling in it. Potion of Comprehension
  4. A glass jar, 3 inches in diameter, a thick mixture that smells of aloe. Restorative Ointment
  5. 4 pots (red, blue, white, yellow) inside a fine wooden box with a brush. https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/marvelous-pigments|tab]Nolzur’s Marvelous Pigments
The locked room on the south side is “Shipping & Receiving,” where we find manifests of the items in the crates, which help us identify the crate of potions, though we don’t understand the dating system used. Something about the stuff coming in not matching the stuff going out.   Some humanoids approach from the northern doorway of the storage room, brandishing clubs. They look like gray humans that have been underground too long. Nock sees that they appear to be blind. Leucis tried talking to one of them, but they responded in another language or grunting that we couldn’t comprehend. Fought 7 of these guys, and left 1 down and unconscious instead of killing.
