Haldion

Haldion is a large continent in the The Outlands. Haldion is a huge and dry continent, but still has a very diverse landscape home to several regions that are both diverse and large. Much of northern and eastern Haldion has been colonized by the Merindian Empire. Haldion is mostly inhabited by dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and other reptiles.   |

Geography

Calvar Islands

The Calvar Islands is a large archipelago southeast of mainland Haldion. The calvar islands are a hot, tropical rainforested landscape. The calvar islands are home to seafaring traders. These traders are master shipbuilders, and sail around the outlands trading all kinds of items. They mostly however will trade their abundant spices in for other valuables. The Calvar islands are home to hundreds of pterosaur species, and hundreds of dinosaur species. There are also gigantic sauropods that walk along the coastlines half submerged in water. These sauropods can grow up to 400 feet long. Between the islands, there are crystal clear waters full of beautiful reefs that are teeming with all sorts of sea life.

Devoria

Devoria is a large peninsula on the northeast side of Haldion. The south half of Devoria is made up of large forested valleys and plains, surrounded by towering mountains and glaciers. The North half is a snowy tundra which is broken up by towering frozen mountains. Devoria is home to the Elysian empire, formerly mighty empire that has fallen almost completely. They used to rule half of Haldion, but now they are only control Devoria.   Devoria is home to dinosaurs and also mammals. There is a mix of large dinosaurs and large mammals, and scenes like a dinosaur battling a mammoth are not uncommon. The dinosaurs of Devoria also possess thick feather coats to protect them from the cold, and many of them even hibernate through the winter.

Samanheim

Samanheim is a huge frozen island north of Haldion. Samanheim is home to huge snow dwelling dinosaurs. These dinosaurs are often between 400-900 feet long, and their food source is mostly unknown, however, their colossal size is spoken of in legends from around the outlands. Native to Samanheim, there are mostly barbarian tribes that are hostile to outsiders, preferring to shoot huge iron spears at outsiders than trade or negotiate. There is also the civilization of Samanheim. This civilization has a religion based around the great beasts that wander Samanheim, and they have even been able to befriend them. This civilization builds with large squared off complex stone work, and is very religious. They have build dozens of colossal temples that rise above the snowy landscape like massive frozen claws.   The Merindian Empire has partially settled some parts of the continent, but face raids from the barbarians.

Ashenoth

Ashenoth is l volcanic desert area east of Devoria. Ashenoth is very dry, and it's sands are grey from all of the volcanic ash that has fallen on them over the millennia. The southern half of Ashenoth is wide sandy desert, and the north half is rocky mountains, full of active volcanoes. This region is mostly devoid of plant life, and has sparse animal life. There are however camel-like dinosaurs, giant lizards and snakes, and huge beetles and scorpions that dominate the landscape.

Whitesand Basin

The Whitesand Basin is a huge deep basin on the eastern deserts of Ashenoth. The whitesand basin is extremely hot, reaching up to 80°C. The edge of the Whitesand Basin is made up of massive dangerous cliffs, and much of the inside is covered in huge scorching salt flats. Very few things can live down here.   The Whitesand Basin's eastern edge is very close to the ocean, and only a small isthmus of land separates it from the world's oceans. This isthmus has been destroyed by the Merindian Empire, and now massive amounts of water have been released, and the Whitesand Basin is quickly flooding, and will soon form a sea. The water falling into the basin is the largest waterfall ever witnessed by human beings, and this action is the largest single change ever made to the world by humanity.

Valsor Desert

The Valsor desert is a very large region of Haldion. It is almost all extremely dry and barren desert. The Valsor desert can be split into several sub-regions. The northern area, bordered by the sunscar mountains, is a huge sandy desert that forms a huge bowl shape. It has very little natural resources in it other than some metals, however recently a large change has come to this region. The Merindian Empire was mining for iron there, but a massive chamber of ground water was detected below the surface. This was ignored by the miners and they kept mining, and eventually broke into this water chamber. Upon breaking the ceiling of the water chamber, a massive amount of water began rushing upwards through the mine, and out to the surface. All of the people in the mine were killed, and water continued gushing out from deep below the earth, and by now a huge lake has formed from all of the underground water being released. This lake is made entirely out of fresh water, and even is home to some animals native to the underground ocean that have now come to the surface, some of which are very large. Currently the flow underground water shows no sign of stopping, and it is not known how large the lake will grow.   South of that, in the central region there is another sandy desert. There is also a plateau of extremely hot salt flats, that has a large mountain of salt in the middle. Other than that, this area is solely sandy desert.   The eastern region extends south as well as east, and is mostly sandy as well, however there are fertile regions along the coast. These fertile regions are home to a seafaring civilization that has been trading with the people of the calvar islands for thousands of years.

Cape Basillin

Cape Basillin is a peninsula south of the Valsor Desert. Cape Basillin is lush and fertile, and it's beautiful rolling hills and coastal mountains are home to a civilization of master seafarers, that are able to travel all across the outlands in their ingenious longships.

Craghelm Mountains

The craghel mountains are a medium size mountain range dividing the southern parts of the Uzok Plains and the Valsor Desert.

Sunscar Mountains

The Sunscar Mountains are a large mountain range north of Valsor Desert and the Uzok Plains. The Sunscar Mountains are very tall and can reach some extreme temperatures, up to 50°C. The Sunscar mountains are mostly barren, although there are several civilizations centered around the 2 large lakes high up in the mountains, and there are dozens of tribes throughout the rest of the mountains. While most of the mountains are very barren and dry, the two large lakes high in the Sunscar Mountains are teeming with life, and are some of the only lush areas in the whole mountain range.   The Sunscar Mountains are sparse, but are home to several mountain dwelling dinosaurs that are adapted for climbing up steep cliffs. The most powerful pterosaurs in Haldion also live in the sunscar mountains. They build their nests up in the peaks of the mountains, and come down to terrorize the lands below, mainly the Uzok Plains. Aside from all the barren cliffs, the two lakes are very lush, and are home to many large species, some of which are native to the lakes.

Uzok Plains

The Uzok Plains is a large grassland west of the Valsor Desert and south of the Sunscar Mountains. The Uzok Plains are hot, dry, and very open and grassy. Most of the region is flat, although a large southern part is somewhat mountainous and is home to many large volcanoes. The Uzok Plains are home to massive herds of grazing dinosaurs, and these are hunted be equally massive carnivorous dinosaurs evolved to run for long distances. The great beasts stomping across the plains provide massive amount of food, crafting and building materials, and danger for the natives there, which are horse riding nomadic plains peoples. Horses are actually native to the Uzok Plains, having migrated their out of Solum millions of years ago. Horses are able to survive by outrunning their predators.

Solum

Solum is a large peninsula in the north of Haldion. It is a cold place similar to Devoria, with large snowy regions and harsh winters. Solum, unlike most of Haldion is primarily dominated by large mammals instead of dinosaurs, and the mammals there are huge, powerful, and brutal, and strong enough to defeat even the fiercest of dinosaurs. Solum has very bizarre mountains. Solum's mountains are extremely tall and thin, and jut out of the ground like huge spires of stone, some of which can stand thousands of meters tall, and some even connect together with high up land bridges. In these mountains are Solum's sky people, who's early discovery of drakkeon and taming of huge pterosaurs has allowed them to thrive in their extremely harsh environment. While they only have iron tools and lack any sort of machinery or industrial capacity, they are able to construct effective airships made out of wood, rope, fabric, and hide. They are powered by hand crank propellers that can be reversed, and angled up or down. Their geography and their air superiority allows them to stay completely safe from the threats below.

Steamscar Basin

Steamscar Basin is a huge basin on Haldion. Almost all of the meltwater from the Malmur Mountains drains into here, forming huge rivers that keep this region green and lush. The Steamscar Basin is home to many large and warm rivers, and lush greenery. Much of the green fields and forests is broken up by crags of stone bursting up from the ground, and also large vents of steam. The steam vents form is wide pits, and often form in clusters, although smaller individual steam pits are not uncommon. The steam pits also tend to form out of hills, and many of the hills of the Steamscar Basin are covered in steam pits. The largest steam pit is 2 kms wide, and it's titanic steam cloud is so large that it can be seen from neighbouring regions outside of the Steamscar Basin such as the Uzok Plains. These steam pits are all connected to tunnels that run deep underground, and the source of the steam is under investigation.   The Natives of the Steamscar Basin are very industrious and advanced. They have been able to utilize the numerous steam pits to power machinery they invented, and they have entered a sort of proto-industrial age. They have made crude yet effective factories around the steam pits, and using the power of the steam to move their wheels and power their machinery, they are able to mass produce some objects such as tools and weapons. They also use steel tools, but have not yet discovered gunpowder. These people are skilled at engineering too, and they are able to build deadly war machines out of cables and metal, and they are even beginning to experiment with a type of crude steam engine they recently invented.   These people have a large population, and they have founded many cities and towns, all of which are connected by a sophisticated road network. These roads are walked by huge dinosaurs trained to pull massive carts and carry dozens of passengers at once.   The wildlife of the Steamscar Basin is huge and powerful. Many of Haldion's strongest species live here, and in huge numbers. The Steamscar Basin is home to hundreds of dinosaur species in the Steamscar Basin, and many of them grow to be extremely large. There are sauropods up to 300 feet and theropods up to 90 feet long. The rivers of the Steamscar Basin are full of fish, marine reptiles, and marine reptiles too.

Malmur Mountains

The Malmur Mountains is the largest mountain range in Haldion. The Malmur mountains are tall, snowy, and very cold and wet compared to majority of Haldion, and meltwater from these mountains forms huge rivers that mostly drain into the Steamscar Basin. The Malmur Mountains are home to a large and powerful empire that conquered the entire mountain range is recent history. This civilization farms on beautiful cliffside terraces, and they are very skilled in construction with stone. They have fought off invasions from the Steamscar Basin, but have failed in attempts to conquer the region. This civilization uses steel tools and has access to huge quantities of silver, and they worship the earth.   The wildlife of the Malmur Mountains is made up of dinosaurs adapted to living in the rocky landscapes. While forests, grasslands, and rivers exist in these mountains, much or the region is made up of steep cliffs and mountains. Many but not all species are adapted to climbing up cliffs or steep terrain. Many of the ones living in the highest peaks also have coats of feathers to survive the cold temperatures.

Anathora

Anathora is a region south of the Malmur Mountains. This region is mostly made up of hot, sandy deserts, although there are somewhat lush regions around the coastline and along the shores of the huge lake in the middle of the region. Anathora is very isolated from the rest of Haldion. It's only land connection is blocked by the towering Malmur Mountains.   The animal life of Anathora is very unique. Much of the species living there are fully unique to the region due to it's isolation. The largest and most successful species are not dinosaurs, but other reptiles. There are mostly bizarre species evolved from crocodiles and tortoises. These can serve the role of burrowing animals, scavengers, apex carnivores, herbivores, and many others.   The people of Anathora are also very unique. Their culture has been mostly isolated for thousands of years, and have built a highly centralized society based on the lake in the middle of the region. Their pantheon is made up of deities based on lakes and rivers, and the ocean.

Owar Steppe

The Owar Steppe is a vast grassland region east of the Steamscar Basin and the Malmur Mountains. The Owar Steppe is vast, open, and grassy. The landscape is very hilly, and the whole region is very windy. Despite the steppe's proximity to the equator, it is rather cold due to the chilled winds blowing in from the north. There are some bushes and tree on the Owar Steppe, but they are often short and have a windswept appearance, as they grow under constant strong winds.   The unique feature of the Owar Steppes isn't the wide open landscapes however, it is what's below. Breaking up the landscape are massive chasms in the ground that lead to the underworld. These cracks can hundreds of meters across, and are the source of many unique occurrences. The natives of the Owar Steppe have claimed to hear low roaring coming from deep in the chasms, and several species of underworld species commonly fly out of the chasm to hunt the creatures of the surface.   The wildlife of the Owar Steppe is primarily large grazing and fast running dinosaurs, many of The People of the Owar Steppe ride fast running therapod dinosaurs across the wide open plains, and they live their lives following herds of great beasts.

Kolma Islands

The Kolma Islands are a large archipelago. The Kolma islands are a large tropical region. The Kolma islands receive heavy rainfall, and are covered in dense rainforests. The wildlife of the Kolma Islands is very deadly. Each island is crawling with a deadly venomous species. One on island, there are millions of deadly snakes, on another, millions of lethal centipedes, another features spiders, another with wasps, another with venomous lizards, and many others. These islands are considered some of the deadliest places in the world due to this, and outsiders rarely set foot on them.

Stonemar Desert

The Stonemar Desert is a medium sized desert on the far western edge of Kolma, west of the Owar Steppe. The Stonemar Desert is mostly hot, dry, and sandy, although lush regions exist on the coastlines and near the border with the Makir Valley.

The Grey Desert

The Grey Desert is a barren wasteland in the western edge of Haldion. The Grey Desert appears to have been destroyed by a cataclysm of unknown origin several hundred years ago. The region has dark grey skies that cast a dark shadow over the whole region. The earth here is devoid of plant life, and made up of scorched grey stone and loose sandy dirt, and the only sings of life are fossilized trees and the skeletons of the once mighty dinosaurs that once lived there. Evidence shows that the region was once a rainforest teeming with life, but some horrible event that wiped out all life, leaving the area barren.

Makir Valley

The Makir Valley is a large valley between the Grey Desert to the north, and the Stonemar Desert to the south. Despite being surrounded by wastelands, the Makir Valley is the most lush region in all of Haldion. The region is home to hundreds of species of dinosaurs and pterosaurs. The Makir valley has mountains to the north and south, and the region dips down into a large freshwater lake at the bottom of the valley.   The Makir Valley is home to a complex and advanced civilization. This civilization has ruled over the valley for thousands of years in isolation, and almost all of their outside interactions have been them battling off invaders seeking better lands, and some of these wars have almost destroyed their entire civilization.
