Troxa
Troxa horses are used for hauling freight and farm work on the island of Managola.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Standing around 6' at the withers and weighing a ton, the Troxa is a massive animal.
Typically straw colored, stallions and mares both have slightly darker shaggy manes, tails and feathers. As they age, the males faces whiten to the point of losing all pigment which has earned them the nickname of Thunder Ghosts.
Genetics and Reproduction
Mares give birth to a single foal once every two to three years because of their year-long gestational period.
Growth Rate & Stages
Troxa aren't fully mature until at least 6 years of age, but they are capable of serving as draft animals at 2 years of age. Like other breeds of horses, their lifespan is demarcated into functional stages.
- Foal: Less than 1 year old
- Yearling: Less than 2 years old, training begins
- Colt/Filly: Under 5 years old, begins service life, sexually immature
- Mare/Stallion: Over 5 years old, sexually mature
Dietary Needs and Habits
Troxa are grazing herbivores with a fondness for fruit treats. Domesticated Troxa are often fed supplemented diets while stabled to increase their working hours.
Additional Information
Domestication
The Troxa have been domesticated for at least 600 years though small herds of wild Troxa exist in the harsh north-face plains.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Troxa are the predominant beast of burden on Managola Island. Single animals are used to pull all but the largest wagons. For massive loads, teams are harnessed together in a train of pairs. Farmers use single or paired animals to plow fields. Foresters and quarry masters depend on the Troxa's strength to transport their products.
The exportation of Troxa from Managola Island is a High Crime and carries harsh penalties. It is rumored a few individual animals have been smuggled off the island, but no known breeding population exists anywhere outside of the Managola.
