Bazion Settlement in Paneus | World Anvil

Bazion

The population is mostly comprised of Humans and Dwarves, though there are many beastkin and shifters who choose to live here too. There has been a city at this spot since the days of the ancient empire, it has a natural deep harbour bay and serves as a major sea port for trade and shipbuilding. Most of the people who live in the city are traders, shipbuilders, hunters and woodcutters. The city also sits upon a river which runs down from the mines in the hill lands to the west, and lays claim to miles of farmland along it's fertile banks.   The city is surrounded by a stone wall, with defensive towers, and has an internal keep built overlooking the bay. It is split into several districts: Shipyards, trade quarter, residential, odiferous, and military and governance. The buildings are made from a mixture of stone and wood, and lean towards thick walls and long sloping roofs. Most of the roads and streets are made from stone or cobblestone, the small alleyways that criss cross the city are hard packed earth. During the wettest months, wooden walkways are placed over some of the more common trod of these small streets.   The day to day running of the city is overseen by an elected offical of the people. They are however expected to seek the counsel of the other clans on certain matters. This is because Bazion also serves as a central seat for the loose confederation of the clans, it was liberated by the clans from the Kalumnian forces towards the end of the war, and is considered a neutral zone.   While life in the environs of Bazion is safer than most places in Mebresh, there is still the threat of raids and monster attacks. Not all of the lands of Mebresh fall within clan territories, and these unclaimed lands spawn all manner of creature and beast, and are home to those folk who seek to live outside any law.
