Chaneritt

A long strip of inhabited land along the coast of The Srem, as well as the numerous islands offshore. it extends to the south around the eastern edge of Caracar around to The Hungering Squall. it formerly extended further north as well, but those parts have fallen to the Pangol Empire.   the most common (or at least wide-spread) ethnic group are the Chaneritti, whom are infused with the essences of various sea-mammals. They have a variety of body-forms, from humanoid walrus to sentient whales to sea-lion centaurs.   Though the various lands of Chaneritti are independent, they have historically been defended jointly by an alliance, in the form of an organisation called The Unified Navy. Originally formed as a defensive measure during the acme of the first Blackpowder Cartel, it was revived from abeyance recently in response to the expansion of the Pangol Empire and Sevesh . all countries contribute to this navy, which has some degree of supranational authority, as well as the scope creep common to such organisations.   Questions:
  • what is the history of warfare with Sevesh?
  • Opoi: Possibly, one of the hero characters becomes stranded there? What about the asexually-dividing person? Reflects issues of contact, civilisation, societal norms.
  • Rename the Unified Navy - Naval League/League of Navies?

Geography

A long archipelago of islands runs along the coast, defining very roughly the north and south of this region. The strip of sea between the islands and coast - The Chaneritt Sea - is infused with the sea-mammal essence that ties the area together ethnically.   Has a substantial slave trade, including some of the largest slave markets in the world.   beyond the islands, the vast expanse of the Diamond Ocean stretches, an expanse of sea so large that it has never been crossed.   sub-locations (north to south):
  • Conovessi - Tungsten (and glass?) - incandescent mainland and island infusion. bright lights and glowing wires. Under control by Pangol Empire. fairly heavily inahbited (at least, before the invasion).
  • The Sarom Morass - snail, slug, and slime-lands, under control by Pangol Empire. The very ground is thick with slime deep enough to swallow up travellers. barely inhabited.
  • Sonmehin: sentient storm-wracked lighthouse off the coast of the northernmost of the crumbling isles. Sporadically inhabited. is it a small rock or a larger island, with fire-elemental servants?
  • The Crumbling Isles - iron/rust islands - off the coast of Gollow Wastes. Barely inhabited.
  • Jewelfont - Sparkling-water land - lots of springs, fountains and geysers- mainland infusion. densely inhabited.
  • Oorishi - animal-free (plant) island-chain. some plants are animate or even sentient, but none are motile. The eastern shores are dotted with washed-up diamonds. Barely inhabited.
  • Remajh - spice-lands - mainland infusion. the wealthiest land of the region, exporting spice both along the coast and westwards towards the Sremic Kingdoms. Densely inhabited.
  • Yttrepoi - covering several islands and a stretch of the mainland, which is infused by Pyrite (fool's gold). Has lots of cubic shapes in landforms, flora, fauna, and peoples. also, mimics and misleading effects are common here. It is common for one substance to take on the appearance of another. Assayers are vital in this land. middling population density.
  • Anari - Tortoise-lands - mainland infusion. the shells of the tortoises can be made of many different materials. Time passes abnormally here, with a slowness of metabolism and an extension of life associated. middling population density.
  • Opoi - Plankton-land - island infusion. whiskered copepod-cyclops are common inhabitants, and have an advanced civilisation. roughly known on navigational charts, but unexplored/uncontacted due to the terrifying sea-life that patrols its coast.
  • The Weirding Barrens - carbon-free (elemental) land. Barely Inhabited.

Fauna & Flora

almost all the higher sea-life is mammalian - shoals of mouse-size seals etc.
