The Power of Knowledge
General Summary
A desperate plea from an exasperated mother was placed on the quest board seeking educated individuals who could tutor her son. Or at least convince him to do his homework. Gwen Alchyron decided to take up the responsibility of instilling a love of knowledge in the next generation. Joined by Limara Gallantry and Wyrn at the Magicians Monacle to strategize, the group did some preliminary research before heading to the Sophisticate to find Isadora and her son, Tommy.
Tommy was your typical eleven-year-old boy. Annoyed and uninterested in most everything. Gwen Alchyron's pep talk didn't accomplish much, but Limara's threat to make Tommy smell like a skunk indefinitely did motivate him some. Most everyone was annoyed with Wyrn for his desire to eat the boy. He was not left unsupervised.
Isadora shared that Tommy had three specific assignments due: an essay on the monster lore of the material plane, a dissection of a donkey rat, and a report on the alchemical properties of a fairy cap. The party headed deeper into the library to find a sourcebook for Tommy's essay.
Conveniently, and to everyone's great pleasure, the party ran into a rather Annoying Old Woman who tried to be as helpful as she could in locating the right book. However, her short-term memory seemed to need improvement as she consistently became confused and turned around. She shared many stories about her grandson and his adventures around Pandora. Did you know that he once got lost in the woods chasing monsters? Turns out they were bunny rabbits. He was gone nigh on six months! The family was so worried. Thank the gods he returned. He at least brought back dinner. Now, where was I?...
Once Tommy had been supplied with Monsters of the Material Plane, Volume III, the party headed out toward the Flame of the Forest Inn, where they had learned that a donkey rat adoption agency had set up shop. The adorable donkey rats lovingly referred to as capybaras by the adoption agency, were well cared for and ready for their "fur-ever" home. Gwen Alchyron had to fill out an adoption application, swearing that he would care for his newly adopted capybara until the end of its natural life. He paid two silver pieces and lied through his teeth.
Donkey rat acquired, the party, along with Isadora and Tommy, headed to the local university to use one of the alchemy labs. There was some argument about how to prep the donkey rat for dissection. Wryn seemed to be in favor of the most brutal approach. But then again, he also seemed to want to eat the thing. Gwen Alchyron's approach won, and the donkey rat succumbed to eternal sleep through some nightshade. Once dead, Limara Gallantry assisted Tommy in gearing up and prepping supplies while Gwen Alchyron painstakingly walked Tommy step-by-step through the dissection process.
After completing two of three assignments, the party considered heading out to harvest fairy cap before realizing they were in an alchemical lab. They found Tommy a perfect specimen, along with the recipe books for his report.
Isadora was beyond grateful for their efforts and paid them all handsomely.
