Learning From the Storm
General Summary
Malen put a call out for any adventurers who were willing to help him gain power to meet him in Traders Cusp Cusp at the Trader’s Respite. Taking up the call were Arcturus, Evette, Lorenzo De Leur, and Anathema. All five of them met at the Trader’s Respite and after exchanging some pleasantries, decided they needed to gather some information. After Anathema and Malen attempted to find some information without success, Evette was able to find a helpful stranger on vacation who pointed her in the direction of the library and to a girl named Eleanor who may be able to help them. After relaying this information to the party, they traveled to Xiomara via walking to Fjordhaven City and using the portal. Once there, Evette led them to the Library where they met Eleanor. After asking a few questions, Malen quickly became annoyed at her stuttering and walked away. Evette once again was able to find out some information and learned that the person Malen was looking for was Dr. Beaker who was leaving for a trip to the Elemental Plane of Air in Fjordhaven City soon. Evette obtained a note from Eleanor to give to the airship’s captain and the party was off once again after buying some much needed rope and supplies.
Upon arriving back in Fjordhaven City, Anathema was able to guide the party to the docks where they found the airship they were looking for called the Vapor Wasp. Approaching the captain of the ship, they were able to get on board with relative ease. A few hours after taking off, everyone but Arcturus noticed some wisps in the sky quickly approaching. The party quickly identified them as swarms of ravens and prepared for battle. Before the first one got to the ship, Malen and Lorenzo De Leur were able to make short work of it with some alchemist’s fire and electricity spells. The second one took a little more of a group effort but was able to be dealt with rather quickly as well. After the birds started to dissipate, one lone raven perched onto the railing of the ship and transformed into a man who introduced himself as Dr. Beaker. Wary of him, the party eventually agreed to help him study lightning elementals in the Elemental Plane of Air in exchange for him teaching Malen how to bring the power of storms into his spells.
After flying for a good part of the day, Malen noticed a slight shimmer in the sky in front of the ship and recognized it as a vortice to the Elemental Plane of Air. Passing through it the ocean disappeared underneath their airship and was replaced with brilliant sapphire skies that went on as far as the eye could see. Not long after arriving Arcturus and Malen both felt a wisp of something across their faces and after brushing it away, heard a voice as a Djinni appeared near them. He was curious as to what the group was doing in the Elemental Plane of Air and upon finding out they were looking to study the denizens of the plane, was more than happy to fill their glasses with wine and celebrate their arrival. Some of the party chose to drink with him with Lorenzo De Leur being especially appreciative of his hospitality. The Djinni gave them some directions while they drank and was on his way.
As the skies grew more cloudy, the party was also able to note different landmasses floating in the sky which Evette marked on her maps. She also noticed a creature making it’s way through the clouds which she recognized as a hieracosphinx. Alerting the party, they prepared for combat as it came to their ship and let out an ear piercing screech deafening some of them. Even without the ability to hear however, Arcturus made short work of the monster dazing it, and then stabbing it through its mane and chest. Malen was able to identify that the creature had been protecting an egg. Evette knowing where it might be, weighed whether it would be good to tell the party as the rest of the group had less than pure intentions. After aruging for a little bit, they agreed to sell to someone who would take care of it. Coming close to evening, the party called it a night and went to bed as the night crew kept watch.
In the morning, the group finally arrived to the edge of the storms in the Elemental Plane of Air. There they watched as lightning flashed and a lightning elemental took notice of them. Rushing to attack the party, the huge elemental pushed Arcturus off the side of the airship but he was luckily tied off. The party worked together to defeat the monster and keep each other alive as the monster felled Lorenzo De Leur before being defeated itself. Luckily with quick thinking from Malen, he was able to stop the bleeding and Lorenzo De Leur and the rest of the crew survived. After taking thorough notes of the entire trip, Dr. Beaker took Malen into his cabin to show him the ways of putting the storm into his spells and the party made it back to The Plane of Pandora and the cities they desired.
