Exploration - Kingdom of Fjordhaven - KKK63

General Summary

Bombo and Alik meet up in Moradins Hammer drinking the king's brew, well Bombo is drinking and he is drinking enough for the both of them. As they enjoy their food Maria Nightfall shows up with her glaive and greets the two introducing herself. Like Alik she is concerned about drinking and adventuring and promises a glass once they finish the call. Azim joins them later and is interupted by Thazead Honorbelly. Thazead informs the king of trouble along the road and advises them to go to the Queen's retreat inside the foriegn district to learn more about the matter.   The Queen's retreat has a very gloomy atmosphere as everyone in there moves in an almost mechanical way. Bombo immediatly gifts the bartender his barrel of ale and questions him about their trouble. Margret Arariac, a Half-Elf merchant who owns the bar, introduces herself. She explains that there has been a string of murder's and robberies that have plauged the path along the coast. Her brother Julio Araric has been accused of the crimes, but he hasn't been seen in town for more then a year. She pleads with the party not to kill her brother as he would never do such a terrible thing. Bring him back alive, he must be under the effects of a spell for such horrors to happen at his hand. He has been grieving she explains, but no one asks her to elaborate. They agree, but not before Azim asks her to move to Trader's Cusp in exchange for him clearing her brothers name. She reluctantly agrees to consider the matter.   Along the path Azim sees a shadowy creature hiding in the bushes ahead. (It rolled a nat one on it's stealth check). He begins approaching but does not warn the party. Alik notices the subtle changes in his weapon and prepares to cast a spell. Azim then throws a shard of his weapon striking the creature. This allows Bombo to pinpoint it's location and he runs up and crushes the creatures spine. Another one jumps out of the bushes but cannot find a gap in Bombo's armor. Azim charges up but it grabs his goat first gripping it by the neck. Bombo finishes the creature off. A third one, stealthing this entire time jumps out of hiding pouncing on Nightfall. Azim insists that Nighfall handle this herself. Not at all trained in combat she struggles while Azim and Alik begin casts buffs on her. After several failures she manages to crit the creature for 10 points of damage from her weapon, and 200 from the buffs cast upon her. It gets violently thrown into the cliff wall turning into a Pollock painting.   Moving on they find a cave with a bear outside with it's back broken. The party is quite confused about how Bombo could have done this without them seeing as it looks like his work. He steps inside the cave and sees a Golem which attempts to slam his fists into the king. Bombo overhead smashes the creature reducing it to vapor. Alik is dismayed to learn that there is nothing left of the creature worth salvaging. Inside it appears to be an alchemist's lab of some sort, but it has been long abandoned. From the dust it looks like it has been about a year.   A great overlook is found with a rock jutting a hundred feet over the water. They see a ship wreck ahead in the ocean but are more concerned with the sound of rocks moving and falling into the ocean. They scout around and find a carnivorous blob approaching very slowly towards Azim. Alik warns the party of the danger and informs them of it's vulnerability to cold. Azim blasts it with holy ice leaving nothing but a pool before him.   Flying down they inspect the wreckage finding several Fjordhaven sailors dead but less then a few days dead. Sharks are summoned and sent into the water but they are quickly eaten by an unseen behemoth. Bombo jumps into the water and is immediatly attacked by this creature but it is unable to penetrate his armor. He smashes it with his weapon while Alik fires a lightning bolt into it. It falls under their onslaught.   Walking along the beach it is getting late, but they know they have almost completed their task. Ahead they hear the sound of a piano playing and see a lone half elf playing this instrument which does not belong here. The party wonders if this is Julio and remember they never did ask what he looked like. Noticing a conjuration aura, Alik guesses the instrument was summoned and dispels it. The man simply summons another one and continues playing seemingly oblivious to them. Azim begins casting break enchantment. The strange man screams at him in an abrubt rage and attempts to escape via dimension door. Maria Nightfall counter spells it.   Angered at her, he screams again while transforming into a beautiful, yet hideously tormented, incorpreal elven woman. After her transformation she sinks below the sand out of sight. Bombo tries to target her with his hammer smashing the ground but only succeeds in destroying her summoned piano. The party wonders what to do while Alik travels to the ethreal plane and battles her while everyone else is confused about what to do. Several rounds of combat happen until she surfaces above the water and tries to create a hellish landscape which again is countered by Nightfall. Realizing her days might be numbered, Nightfall immediatly hides hoping to escape the rage of the creature.   Bombo is sent off into the water with a telekenic charge and smashes his hammer into her. The creature attacks him and her touch filles him with a sense of dread, causing the king to cower in fear before her. She begins to let out a wail but not before Alik removes Bombo's fear allowing him to survive her fatal scream. He finishes her off with a series of attacks from his deadly hammer.   Exploring further they find several wagons abandoned on the road with several corpses. Among them is Julio Araric who seemed to have died of fear and his body is under a gentle repose spell so it is difficult to know how long he has been dead. An elven woman lays nearby with strangulation marks around her neck and the state of decay suggests she has been dead for about a year or two. There is also several jars and alchemical notes in the backpack of another corpse.
