Dawnbringer, Part 9

General Summary

Sunlord Orndeir,   From what we've gathered, the Dawnbringer Company discovered a link between the gold dragon treasure hoard they were sinking and the sewers beneath the Heroes Garden. Apparently, a gold dragon was dwelling beneath the city, normally impossible within the borders of Waterdeep, but its essence had been so utterly changed by vampirism as to render the Dragon Mythal ineffective. But I digress.   The Company spared the leader of the Shadow Thieves in Skullport, but discovered there was not enough dragonmarked treasure remaining to forge into a hilt for Dawnbringer. A Dragontooth of Lareth was recoverd, however, and claimed by Evette. (Apparently it fell into the hands of one of the companions, Anathema, whose morals I personally find suspect, before eventually being entrusted to Solus, and Evette pickpocketed it back when he was about to die.) Meanwhile, Malen used speak with dead (a foul but necessary spell, even the Watch use it) on one of the thieves and discovered the location of the dropoff for the gold dragon: a sewer underneath the Heroes Garden. (I've heard a story or two that Solus ate the sewer grate, but I'm honestly afraid to ask.)   Upon reaching the Garden, however, the local Watch had sealed it off while they investigated a murder. Not willing to wait, the Companions paid for the resurrection of the victim themselves and found that he had been set upon by a flying creature in the Garden capable of paralyzing its victim. This and the lack of blood led Malen to presumtively conclude the dragon must be a vampire, and unfortunately, the elf was right. The Company was nearly wiped out--even Anathema fought bravely, though the dragon sensed her despite her invisibility. Rhal and Solus both fell, but Amaunator be praised, they explored the sewer during the day so Malen teleported the bodies of the warriors while the rest escaped to the daylit surface.   Evette's report of magic auras on the entrance leads them to believe they discovered a long-lost entrance to the Catacombs of Yintros, and though I'm skeptical, it was you who taught me the importance of faith, Sunlord, and so I shall continue to provide whatever assistance I can to these Companions. While Solus blames himself for his rage at the dragons, but wouldn't explain more, while for Rhal it was a struggle for the raise dead spell to take, their survival has only increased my faith in the prophesied success of their quest.   May the Yellow Sun Light Your Way,   Righteous Brother Hronkil Elgredsson
