Somnus is the primal incarnation of dreams, innately worshiped by any who dream, as those that do find themselves in his realm. Dreaming is one's subconscious acting out wants or desires, and as such he can sense all the dreams of mortals. It offers him a unique perspective on the lesser lifeforms as most gods view themselves above their existence. Instead, Somnus has an appreciation for them, understanding their motives and reasonings for living in a world that often takes more than it gives. He is a defender of the people, and most everyone has dreams and desires.

Somnus has no following that worships him, rather the natural tendency to dream that all people have, mixed with their greed for more, make him exceptionally powerful. He has been lost to the people of Pan-tyrel however, not having been seen for many years and assuredly forgotten by their masses that once upheld his glory. It was once whispered that he, like a dream, was hard to remember. Visiting him was like experiencing his dreamscape, where one sees their potential come to fruition and then forgets it once waking up. Speaking with Somnus was an enriching experience that one wanted to last forever, coddled by his smooth, soothing voice that was sure to put one to sleep, just to be oblivious to having met him in the first place.

Hidden away in The Silver City, Somnus is in a state of deep meditation as he spends his days suppressing the Great Old One named Ogrukareth. He stands as the antithesis of this foe, the symbol of all the wants and needs of the people looking for anything better than this world, while Ogrukareth’s very being seeks to poison all dreams and contort them into something else for his own gain. It has earned Ogrukareth the title “God of Nightmares'' from the other gods, a term befitting the hideous monster he is. Together, Ogrukareth seeks to toxify the hopes that Somnus collects from his worshippers, while Somnus distracts him and holds him in his slumber.
