The Worship of Os Vehs
Mythology & Lore
Ages ago, when the world was withering and dying due to catastrophe the peoples suffered. Families turned against one another and all morals were cast aside for the sake of survival. The elves called on their Great Lady, the Half- Orcs their Parents, and the humans their multiple gods. The gnomes decided to flee into their caves and dug deep underground while avoiding the dwarves and drow elves as well. On the brink of slaughtering each other due to hunger and madness, the remaining gnome villages and cities united with one last idea.
The remaining gnomes combined their great magics and theorized to open a magical portal to escape to another plane of existence, not knowing what world or dimension they would make landfall. Once complete, the gnome while still standing atop their mountain where it was completed waited anxiously for a sign for a gush of wind or the trembling of earth. Nothing changed. The gnomes began to despair, some wondering if they should throw themselves from atop the cliffs to save their suffering when a twinkle in the sky caught their attention. The light grew and grew until a noiseless explosion caused this light to expand rapidly, blinding anyone who looked to the sky.
When some of the gnomes were able to lower their hands and they blinked around in confusion, what they saw above them struck them with wonder. Aghast with terror, they trembled at the sight and were unable to understood what was before them. From above them the large Object Flew and what Descended was indescribable. But the gnomes called them the Os Vehs and their descriptions have been lost or hidden to the world. However, it was after this that the Os Vehs rose the gnomes off their feet and the world was torn asunder before them. Terrified the gnomes begged for mercy and were put to work inside the Os Vehs vehicle.
Conflicting stories either describe a handful of gnomes escaping or the Os Vehs set them free, yet upon returning to earth the gnomes kept to themselves, afraid to explore the destroyed world beyond their caves. While in their homes they combined their new knowledge of technology, forced upon them by the Os Vehs with their magic, creating some of the first machines. Still, the gnomes continued to struggle, and some set off to leave their homes hoping to find survivors of the apocalypse. On their explorations the gnomes found the remaining gnomes, sharing their crafts and to their surprise they found a few other sparse races. When they encountered these other groups they failed to remember the time before The Great Light and when the gnomes attempted to recall their time with Os Vehs, they realized they forgot their was a history too.
From this point onward, the gnomes continued to tinker and develop their deep magics and skill with tinkering. The gnomes shared some of their secrets with the other races to stabilize relationships and to regrow the world. Some accepted the help though their skills could hardly revile the mastery of the gnomes, which continues to this day.

Worship
Chapels of Os Vehs, big and small often support the gifted through monetary or other means. For example, an emerging scholar from a village might receive donations from their local chapel to ensure they enter into an esteemed college or offer financial aid to the start up of a grand invention. Whether it is the Strakh or the Radost' chapels, they are there to provide wisdom, guidance, and some financial assistance if possible. Strakh prepares their people for defensively, to be ready for destruction and woe. Radost' prepares to impress Os Vehs and to impress the god enough that they might be accepted into Os Vehs's favor.
Sects
The Os Vehs religion can be broken down into two broad umbrellas: those who fear Os Vehs's return and those who cannot wait for the Return.
Strakh (Stra)
Worshippers who endure anxiety over the return of Os Vehs believe that the being will return to bring destruction and woe to the world. It is thought that the first gnomes to have experienced Os Vehs escaped their clutches after being enslaved and that the theft of Vehs's secrets will bring about vengeance. Furthermore in this branch there are further divisions if the god has returned already or if in future sooner or later they might return. If bad luck befalls someone, a gnome might believe Os Vehs is enacting their revenge already and that the destruction of the world is slow process. On the flip side, others believe this destruction will happen in a swooping noticeable event or series of events.
Radost'(Ra-dest)
Believers of the Radost' school of thought are brimming with excitement at the idea that Os Vehs will return someday. The Return of the god will result in more knowledge and discovery, possibly to bring the gnomes into the god's realm. Already the first gnomes who encountered Os Vehs were returned with gifts and knowledge to help their people, so it stands to reason Os Vehs will visit again. Whether by chance or a developmented ability, when good fortune occurs some believe Os Vehs is lending out their power or knowledge to the individual. In this vein it is a sign Os Vehs will come back someday to share this power with all and all will be elevated.
