Stettad Udos
Structure
The religious practice of Stettad Udos does not pertain to an authoritative body or particular hierarchy. Rather the practices of Stettad Udos have been integrated as a sector of the government to oversee Gabil Khalt or Grand Vault. Donations to Stettad Udos are split to pay for the needs and services of Ushmâr, maintenance of the chancels, and distribution to public institutions such as public schools. Within chancels small structures exist though no one individual or group of individuals dominates a chancel. Untah are students learning and living under a small group of Ushmâr. Within singular chancels the Ushmâr select a Gabil Ushmâr as their main spokesperson and head of the chancel. Usually it is Gabil Ushmâr who meet with important peoples and help settle disputes should there be any.
Public Agenda
Chancels are pillars in communities across Knurl Sartos and are connected to the government in some way. Given childhood and teenage years are for teaching and not business, essentials are paid for by various donors, but especially and usually directly from chancels. As a tenent of Stettad Udos to spend one's coin than horde it, collections within chanels are divided to go back into the community. For this chanels pay for the Children Homes and Public Schools as well as certain town wide events important to the community.
In terms of religious responsibilities, Ushmâr pray for the wealth and prosperity of their neighbors and the rest of the Kingdom. For this rituals and holidays will be overseen and organized by the local chancels.
Mythology & Lore
Borith Knurla">Borith Knurla was quite lazy and did not care to work much to the frustration of his AllFather. AllFather came to him and said,
“Son! You sleep in bed, sleep by the fire, or go off among the rocks doing nothing productive. Why do you not make something for yourself.” And then Borith Knurla said, “I care not AllFather, while my brothers busy themselves with needless work, I enjoy my own pleasures.” Angered and grabbing his whip, AllFather yelled, “You do not bring in coin and you do not provide! Get out of my house and go make a name for yourself!”Driven out of the house with a pack and some supplies, Borith Knurla was greatly annoyed and found his AllFather assigned him to a world to keep watch over. Dismayed Borith Knurla told himself he would do as little work as possible and he traveled to this world. Arriving on this world, he set up a comfortable house in the Sky world and he occasionally watched below at the beings who lived there, but not closely. One day, when eating his food, he dropped a berry and it bounced across the landscape creating spikes in the land which would be mountains. Upon retrieving his treat Borith Knurla saw how the peoples of this world walked with their back bent and many bemoaned their inability to stand straight. Curious, he traveled from the sky to a dwarven home who was not completely bending over and asked the residents inside why the people walked so. They answered, “We creatures walk like this because the sky is too low. We have tried to lift the sky and we cannot.
“But you are not troubled?” asked Borith Knurla. “No,” they answered, “For we are dwarves and were smart to shape ourselves smaller than everyone else and are not troubled, though it is difficult to grow food or plants well for the trees bend and spoil.” “I suppose I must help or AllFather will punish me,” Borith Knurla sighed and changed the tall beings into gnomes. Some people were pleased with this form, but others decided to be taller so they complained. The gnomes and dwarves who were happy paid respects by offering Borith Knurla gold. Surprised and scheming, he forwarded this gold to AllFather and AllFather left him alone to be watcher of the world. Still, many gnomes complained and desired to be their original height so Borith Knurla some of them into halflings and many were pleased with this shape. Yet others were not and they continued to complain. So Borith Knurla changed some halflings into humans or tieflings and some were pleased with this form, but others decided to be taller so they complained. More gold bribed him and Borith Knurla changed some of the humans into elves as the sky was raised. Some were pleased with this form, but others still wanted to be taller so some complained. With more gold bribes Borith Knurla changed the beings one last form into dragonborns and half- orcs, raised the sky further, and finally the complaining ceased. Although, with the sky high enough and enough room for foliage and people to grow, the plants did not fair well, dying off. Starving, the people bribed the god to come off his sky bed to help them and in doing so he searched for what could be done. Curiously, he reached his long ax into the sky and hewed at a star, which began to fall toward earth much to the panic of the people, yet he halted the fall and the sun shined in the sky. Finally able to see, the people rejoiced and were surprised to find so many other different beings, animals, and the plants began to thrive with food and flower. More gold was bribed to Borith Knurla and he was pleased. But over time, the sun was becoming too hot fixed in one place and the people began to fight over shade as shade helped them darken their eyes and go to sleep. The sun was also boiling rivers, streams, and oceans. While it helped create rain, it still was not enough to cool down the land and the crops began to fail. Hearing the noise down below, Borith Knurla asked what was wrong and the people told of their woes. With a sigh Borith Knurla ventured into his workshop where he crafted a device that would move the sun across the sky and give the creatures below some hours of dark and some of light. Delighted with this invention, he was bribed with more gold and Borith Knurla was pleased. Eventually more woes befell the people for at night time they were too cold and could not see the wild animals that attacked them at night. Searching the sky, Borith Knurla took a small hatchet and threw it at a passing comet and placed it on the track opposite to the sun, creating the moon. As for warmth during the night he believed the light of the moon was enough for them and deciding he did not want to work anymore, he promised the people he would work on the problem in due time. Believing he would fix their dilemma, the people paid him homage by offering more money and he was pleased in his scam. Time passed, and many beings waited patiently, though a handful of dwarves were finding themselves too cold in their mountains and underground to wait any longer. One dwarf said to his brother,
“We must find out what keeps the god so warm in his house because if we wait any longer we will remain cold forever and this will not be good.”In agreement the dwarf and his brother and sister climbed the highest mountain they could find, discovering a trap door above them. Lifting each other up, the wiggled their way through a crack and found themselves in the dwelling of Borith Knurla, a giant compared to them. In their search they found fire in a fire place and pleased at its warmth determined this should be brought down to the world below. To be safe, the second brother said,
“Let us see how he uses this fire so we will know what to do, for if it is unusual or dangerous we must know.”The others agreed and from a shelf they watched the god for a whole day. They discovered how wood satiates the appetite of fire and water snuffs it out. It could not only warm but give light and cook delicious meats! A plan was made for one second brother to sneak back down to the world to prepare the people, the first brother would harness the fire, and the sister would distract the god. Upon waking, the sister dwarf let herself be known and called up to him saying,
“Borith Knurla, pick me up gently so I might speak to you, I have some gold to offer and another idea.”In his palm the sister danced, offered her gold, and explained to the god that while he was mighty and kind, his dwelling could do with some tidying up.
“Make me large so I might wash your clothes, sweep the floor, and clean the dishes. What do you say?”Without another word, the god agreed for this meant he would not have to do the work himself and he ate his food while watching the maiden clean his home. She was hoping he would go back to sleep so her brother might sneak out with a ember, but the god remained awake. So she exclaimed,
“Oh my, how dusty!”and with the broom swept the floors so hard it created a large dust cloud and it blinded them both. The god complained and she continued to apologize while still making a racket. The brother saw his opportunity as he hid near the fire place, running over to pick up his log and dashing across the room and through the trap door. Allowing the dust to settle and in his displeasure, the god made her small again and told her to leave or he would kill her. With a swift bow she ran off and as they traveled down the tall mountain they heard a roar behind them. In the brother’s haste to pull the log from the fire place, it caused the other logs to topple over and a small fire burned the god’s carpet. He discovered the small footprints of the dwarf leading out through the trap door. Knowing the god would give chase, the brother and sister hurled the burning log down the mountain and it landed at the feet of the other brother and other creatures who waited for the fire. On the second brothers instructions, all of those waiting below held torches and when the fire was made available all light their torches. Finally, hearing the god trample down the mountain, the beings scattered across the world with their prize and fire was brought to all peoples. However, the brothers and sister still had a burning log to deal with and decided to split the remaining log and they would hide it. One brother ran west, one east, and the sister ran off somewhere else. The two brothers foolishly tried to hide their fires in the woods and the fire burned down the forest, thus creating the two major deserts. The sister however was smart and pushed her log in one of the large lakes, dosing the flame. Borith Knurla, upon reaching the bottom of the mountain found all other creatures came into possession of his fire and he sought out the brothers and sisters, but could not find them. Unable to punish the rest of the world for the mistake of three people, he shrugged and could no longer be bothered. Returning to his home, Borith Knurla realized he was to be responsible if he did not want to be tricked again and from that point on he kept his house clean and tidy. From here on out, dwarves decided to mostly live underground or in mountains to not be spotted by the god if they should ever accidentally incur his wrath again.
Cosmological Views
In Life
The world is full of opportunity and gold if one is willing to work hard. The inability to be financially independent may be seen as a curse for Borith Knurla and raises suspicions for others may wonder if the individual had bribed him enough. Other financial woes may drive others to keep away for fear that Boritha Knurla may have spotted one from his cloud cottage above and is chasing the individual, mistaking them for one of the fire thieving siblings. However, should misfortune occur beyond the control of the individual such as natural disasters or disease then popular view is that this is merely bad luck. Bribing outside of the Kingdom may be frowned upon, but for the common citizen a bribe is more of an agreed contract between individuals or groups and is so often practiced it is almost not truly bribing by that point. Contracts and agreements are nearly viewed as sacred for followers and disrespecting or outright breaking a contract is a terrible sin. For when one signs a contract the individual vouch their honor and duty, so in breaking this trust will have serious ramifications, both financial, legal, and sometimes spiritual if an Ushmâr has blessed it. For example, most contracts are filed on paper and are overseen/ edited by lawyers. For cultural or personal contracts the local Ushmâr could be called upon. However, when one offers a handshake and verbal agreement this is considered an ultimate pact. Given that this ultimate pact cannot be formally recorded or reported, verbal handshakes are a sign of pure trust where both parties agree on something so important that scribe words and parchment cannot cover it. In Death
As mentioned in the origin story, Boritha Knurla refers to an AllFather, a specific name having been lost to time, and it seems the AllFather becomes an important figure in death than in life. Upon death whether sudden or known in advance, such as becoming ill or being old, the individual will find themselves in front of the Sky Cottage of Boritha Knurla. After Boritha Knurla peers out the window, inspecting the guest to be sure it is not a fire thief, the individual may be invited inside for bread and mead. At his table the individual discusses with Borith Knurla their life, their deeds, and why they should continue working to earn and spend coin. In meeting Boritha Knurla they are placed into the most intensive job interview ever before experience because with correct answers one may be sent to go work for the AllFather. Incorrect answers or poor performance in life may cause Boritha Knurla to turn them away to turn them into an animal. By being turned into an animal and sent back to Pamant, the soul will forget the joys of earning and spending coin as well as becoming prey for some other creature. For those who made grievous sins in their life, they are sent to the AllFather and his workers, but as slaves who remember earning and spending coin. As a slave their torture is difficult work in very terrible jobs while watching the AllFather fill his coffers and others work for him in joy. The inability to earn their worth by performing this work is torturous and forever.

Tenets of Faith
Texts on the philosophy and interpretation of Stettad Udos do not outline a strict set of codes or rules. Though in the centuries priests and clerics have agreed on an outline of his teachings.
- Breaking contracts tarnishes the value of the soul.
- Theft is the coward's way to gain.
- Money flows and spreads like the fire spread from the Sky Cottage.
- Money should not stagnate, it invites vermin to fester in the heart.
- The smallest bribe and offer that is given should not be forgotten, for you might need to make an offering back.
- Talk with confidence to lead yourself and others.
- Listen fully or you will be caught off guard like Boritha Knurla.
- Treat all well for they may work for you or they may become your boss.
- Murder is theft of life and other individual's investment into the victim.
Ethics
Breaking contracts tarnishes the value of the soul.
Word is bond and your honor is tied to your soul. Individuals who intentionally break contracts tarnish their inner soul and if done too many times then Boritha Knurla will sneer at their soul bribe when they die and will punish them. Theft is the coward's way to gain.
Steeling is very much discouraged in the dwarven society and for the religion murder is considered "theft" of one's life. Murder is robbing the individual from pursuing their wealth and is not an interesting business strategy for opponents. As such, direct theft of coin, goods, or forging books is considered theft. Concerning fraud such as tricking people into contracts or cons in general is not so much covered by this rule because the societal view is the individual or business should have taken care overseeing the contract. A bad contract is due to lack of experience, confidence, etc. and the true fault lies in the victim. Money flows and spreads like the fire spread from the Sky Cottage./Money should not stagnate, it invites vermin to fester in the heart.
These two ideas are fairly the same, the idea that hoarding money out of paranoia or greed is viewed poorly. Clinging to such wealth is a sign one has not been offering money to Boritha Knurla and lack of money to him might draw his eye on the individual and/ or their company. The smallest bribe and offer that is given should not be forgotten, for you might need to make an offering back.
In sum, this rule states for one to remember to humble because at one point struggle was a part of life, so when another comes to you for help within reason, then be kind. Scorning one's plea for help or assistance after being given some money is very bad for faith is broken and should the tables turn, help should not be expected back. Talk with confidence to lead yourself and others./ Listen fully or you will be caught off guard like Boritha Knurla.
Following in a similar vein, people should balance speaking and listening as a basic business strategy. Such a tenant is also useful in daily life when working with others and hopefully promotes harmony and understanding. Too much fighting and arguing might wake Boritha Knurla from a nap. Treat all well for they may work for you or they may become your boss.
This rule is alike the previously mentioned rule, though it specifies bosses to remind them everyone earns their positions and to be patient with those learning or to listen to their teachers. Murder is theft of life and other individual's investment into the victim.
While not regarded as a number one sin, the act of killing another with intent, direct or not, is considered high Theft of one's soul. By the act of murder the victim is unable to complete contracts made with others, of course the victim's inability to complete a contract will not be held against them. Also by stealing away life, others who invested into the victim by money or goods also loses out because the victim would have likely paid them back in future and their investment may have been squandered prematurely.

Worship
Birth
Having lived with their parents for a year, the babies of dwarven parents or those living in dwarven culture are sent to Children Homes. It is cultural practice and good luck to send one's child to Homes far away or as far as possible from their home of origin to test the eventual prowess of the individual. By growing up further away from their birth home it will be more challenging and cost more money to find their birth homes. So when an individual does discover their origins at the proper age, a proper celebration is had and proves the individual is ready to chase their success. When parents have chosen a Children Home a contract is made and for spiritual blessing checked by lawyers and Ushmâr from community of the original birth home and Ushmâr of the local Children Home. In addition to sending the child away, it is expected for parents to cover the contract with a reasonable sum or donation of goods. Worship at the Chancel
Chancels are guaranteed to be found in every mountain city, often multiple and above ground they dot the top soil landscape. Worshipers may enter during the day for individual prayer and to donate. Otherwise every few days or through most of the week, depending on the size of the chancel, Ushmâr may offer services were a prayer is said to the group of attendees or open discussion or stories are discussed regarding Borith Knurla. Practice at Home
Small alters can be found in dwarf homes in a private corner usually near the door for guests should pay a coin for the hospitality they are shown whether it is a single copper or a gold, the value is not important, the act is. For daily practice, the individual leaving their home might leave a coin piece on their offer as a "loan" to Boritha Knurla and then pick it up when they return home. Placing the coin on the alter is paying the god to borrow the money to save or protect the individual from harm. Often open prayer is not done at these in home shrines as it is seem to be more polite to travel to the local chancel, though if an individual is incapable of traveling then prayer may be conducted at the in home altar. Community
Since citizens do not grow up with their parents, Ushmâr and clerics visit the Children Homes to give small bags of money to children on special occasions such as birthdays or for special achievements that are reported by other community leaders. The view of giving this money to children is viewed as Ushmâr investing in future successful customers and business people. In return, successful business people when older might return the favor by sponsoring a beloved chancel. When special community events, holidays, or festivals are organized, Ushmâr are likely to be there to help out as well. In Business
For important contracts whether business related or personal contracts, sometimes a Ushmâr will be called upon to bless the contract as well as a lawyer. The lawyer oversees the legality of the contract while the Ushmâr calls upon Boritha Knurla to view the pact. In calling upon Boritha Knurla and gaining his attention it shows good faith that cheating will not occur. Should one of the parties purposefully break the contract it guarantees that if the law does not find out and deal mortal punishment then divine intervention will occur at some point within this life or at death. In cheating a contract not only does one betray the other party, but betray Boritha Knurla for the betrayed party loses funds that would have likely been donated back to the god. Marriage
Similar to business contracts, individuals marrying each other can be married in a chancel and guarantee that Boritha Knurla has viewed the contract as well. A cultural quick has developed over the years in marriage contracts known as the Paragraph of Grievances, a section dedicated for one or both participants to make a specific detail in the marriage contract. For example, if the future spouse is known to have an annoying habit like clicking their tongue, tapping, or other quirks or habits then the other spouse may write a Cease and Desist to deter such bad behavior. This section of the contract is of course not strictly overseen before or during marriage, but gives the couple an opportunity to be brutally honest before entering a long term relationship. Death and Afterlife Once a worshiper or even a standard dwarf not practicing the faith becomes of age it is common practice to immediately have a Will written up. Often on the birthday of becoming an adult a worshiper will head to the local chancel and lawyer to show and submit a will. Standard practice shows a Will that upon death whether sudden, due to old age, or accident possessions and money are first donated to immediate family or friends unless otherwise. Usually a portion of one's wealth will go back to chancels, Children Homes, or other organizations that have access to the community. Wealth of individuals are not allowed to be donated or accepted by established businesses or government branches. It is also hoped that if the death is forseen, the individual will pay for burial rites and such ahead of time. Due to this one's grave can be claimed early in life to prepare for sudden death. It is not surprising that one's Will is re-written multiple times in their life as businesses change, life events shape them, etc.

Priesthood
Ushmâr are exclusively men because in the mythology of Boritha Knurla it was the sister who spent the most time with the god. Since he learned of her voice and appearance his memory of her is more affixed in the mind than the brothers who he did not see. Given this women are not allowed to be Ushmâr for fear the god will spy her and he will descend to kidnap her and eat her. Women clerics are allowed to work with Ushmâr as assistants, cleaners of chancels.
Typically, Untah are individuals who enter chancels for the purposes of learning the rites and rituals of Stettad Udos under the guide of the Ushmâr. After years of learning and practices several Ushmâr evaluate the Untah to determine if they are ready for the next step. When entering a chanel all of their money and titles as well as most of their possessions are given back to the community. Living off of donations or being sponsored by successful business people who have community ties to the chancel helps guarantee basic necessities are covered. Good practice says any gifts offered Ushmâr should be something created rather than bought to contain sentimental value than monetary value. If deemed as something of monetary value that might be easily sold Ushmâr are discouraged from keeping it. Thus gifts given to Ushmâr are usually gifts that can be shared communally by the Ushmâr or if it is an individual gift it should be crafted special.
Sometimes a very successful business person will be approached by a Chancel group and will be offered the Guardian title. If they accept their wealth and possession are given away to their family or others for it is being offered back to Boritha Knurla. To be approached with the Ushmâr title is a high honor and not one that comes often. Because their titles and ties toward certain guilds are severed, sometimes a Ushmâr will be asked to visit to offer wise words and to remain impartial to any decision making.
Political Influence & Intrigue
The religious influence of Stettad Udos has culturally influenced the business people and leaders of the Kingdom's political space. For this, chancels will work with the different branches of government especially in times of great need. Should natural disaster occur, for example, chancels will often work with local and/ or federal branches to help secure the needs and safety of the common people.
