Primus - "The Master Arbiter"
Primus is the law, and the gatekeeper of the Hall of Ordinance within the divine realm of Mechanus. Like its less savory godkin Atropus, Primus is a divine being that is known to predate the ravages of The Ruination. Originally created by Jalroc as the overmind of the mechanical servants and caretakers of Mechanus, Primus ascended into a higher form sometime during the end of The Ruination, perhaps as a dichotomous result of Yggdrasil shattering and becoming the Roots of Chaos in the heart of the Maelstrom.
Like the universal Monad the predates it, Primus is an aeon, an entity of balance and opposing forces finding harmony within a whole. The primordial forces of creation and destruction ooze from its being, and through its creations known as the Inevitables. Primus concerns itself with the fundamental makings of reality, making it one of the most esoteric gods for most mortals, who are more likely to find worship in its creation known as Bronkall.
Primus primarily focuses on maintaining neutrality in its acts and schemes, avoiding rivalries and getting involved with other gods. It aligns most closely with Immortias, who other deities trust (often begrudgingly) with handling the cycle of souls and ensuring their aligned passage after death. Primus is seen similarly, as some gods take their plans to Primus to see the flaws or risks inherent in their actions. One tale speaks of how Elyndra came to Primus to weigh the cons of her journeying to the Abyss and hunting the Prince of Demons for sport, before Primus in its wisdom informed her that a deity invading the Abyss to hunt their kind would see another demonic alliance, the likes of which had not been seen since the Age of Darkness and spell disaster.
Primus appears as a colossal humanoid vessel made of elaborate metalwork, its innards filled not with flesh, but with the roiling light and darkness of the universe. Every action is takes is followed by manifesting runes, glyphs, and other primordial manifestations of the universe and its orderly construction.
Areas of Concern: cosmic order, inevitables, law, and stability Divine Realm: Mechanus, Nirvana Alignment: Lawful Neutral Typical Follower Alignments: LG, LN, N, LE Edicts: Ensure balance between opposing forces, mediate disagreements Anathema: Allow your personal motivations to determine a major decision Doctrines and Beliefs: Despite being a very lawful and rigid god, Primus does not instill teachings in its followers, as it does not seek to gather a church like many other deities within the new pantheon. Rather, its followers are often of a strangely existential mindset and study its motivations and attempt to act as they believe Primus intends: in pursuit of maintaining order for the greater universe. As such, most of its followers tend to just stick to the philosophy that surrounds concepts of “order”. The careful preservation of the universe and its laws is best left to its creations known as the Inevitables, powerful constructs that each pursue those who would damage reality, or that seek to mend the damage already done to it. Because of this disinterest in its mortal followers, most worshippers of the Master Arbiter pursue scholarly understanding of the fundamentals of the universe. These people are more concerned with planar lore, history, cause and effect of significant events, and other similar concepts. Many study the numerology known as the Cypherian Will that is common among followers of Bronkall, aiming to study the underlying logic of the universe through glyphs, runes, numbers, and words. Worshippers: On rare occasions though, some individuals gain the divine boons present in that of clerics and champions of other gods, often because of their own ascetic mentalities and because Primus likely intends a particular purpose for them. Followers of Primus do not assign names to themselves beyond the most basic of titles, as a way of self-denial in pursuit of greater goals than vanity and the like. Most tend to be incredibly eccentric and philosophical, interested more in the thought processes of universal order and the place that every entity or idea has in it, and more concerned with the eternal struggle of order and chaos than good and evil. Some followers of Primus however do not possess the greatest of intentions or the level of ascetic self-denial as others do, and focus their study on the aspects of universal law and order so that they may understand how to break these limitations to their advantage, and how far are they capable of being pushed while avoiding trouble. Some study similarly because they wish to push these boundaries for the good of others, and desire the knowledge of these limitations to avoid catastrophe for themselves.
