Akasha - "The Feathered Fool"

Akasha is known as the goddess of knowledge, and is the patron of those who seek truth and to better the world around them through the gathering and sharing of knowledge. Though a goddess that adheres to what many would consider a noble cause, among the common folk Akasha holds many names but none more common than “The Idiot God”.   Legends state that following The Ruination, a wise being emerged in the Astral Sea, a realm where thought gives shape to reality. Gifted with near-omniscience of truths both beneficial and ruinous, the being possessed knowledge of a domain secreted away in the Astral Sea. With its incredible powers of mind and matter in this Astral realm, it created miniature aspects of itself, celestial beings known as Garudas and decreed its terrible truths be sequestered from those who would use it for destruction, and to spread its knowledge for the good of others. From there it created a near infinite repository of knowledge, a library born from its power known as the Akashic Records. Deprived of its own gifts, the “Idiot God” Akasha now exists as a fool, a shell of the genius intellect it once possessed.   Though the nicknames persist among the common folk, and even among her followers in a playful manner, Akasha is anything but weakened or truly handicapped as we imagine such terms in her present state. Akasha above all else wishes to spread truths that will lead to enlightenment and harmony among the people and beings of the universe, and hide terrible and destructive truths from those that would use them for evil. Naturally this affords her many enemies, and as a result access to her Records is one of the rarest privileges known to anyone.   Though she means well, Akasha is wise and unwilling to share her knowledge in some cases, even if it would ultimately be beneficial to someone or an entire civilization or world. Though her knowledge of a great many things would include technologies and sorceries yet to be developed or discovered, Akasha rarely divulges things before their time as she deems appropriate. This is because of two things. The first, is that Akasha is a being of change and good will and still values autonomy. Akasha sees carefree divulgence of any and all knowledge to even well meaning mortals as depriving mortal beings of their own agency and robbing them of hope, or the will and drive to uncover truths for the betterment of their fellow man. Akasha values freedom, and to deprive mortals the freedom to shape their own destiny and the opportunity to do good would go against what Akasha believes in. The second is that Akasha knows that too much change too quickly can ultimately lead to bad things even if she or her servants mean well. Societies need time to acclimate to changes in technology, sorcery, morality, beliefs, and much more. While a free spirit and an agent of change, she is not a being of utter chaos like The Living Infinite is, and knows that too much change too fast will ultimately lead to unnecessary destruction.   Akasha is depicted as an avian and draconian being, like a cross between a blue jay and a metallic dragon.
Areas of Concern: truth, enlightenment, innovation, safeguarding knowledge   Divine Realm: Akashic Records; Astral Sea   Alignment: Chaotic Good   Typical Follower Alignments: LG, NG, CG, N, CN   Edicts: spread truth, challenge oppression through education, expose malicious lies   Anathema: make judgements without evidence, selfishly hoard knowledge and secrets   Doctrines and Beliefs: Akasha’s doctrines dictate that one must constantly be learning, or sharing the knowledge one has learned with others. To many, “you learn something new every day” is a maxim. To a Student (the general term to describe any dedicated follower), it is an edict and practice of one’s faith.   Worshippers: Dedicated followers of Akasha are known as Students, and are common among scholars, philosophers, inventors, explorers, monks, collectors, detectives and investigators, historians and chroniclers, and any who would seek knowledge for other than ill purposes.   Temples to Akasha are often libraries and schools, and compared to many other faiths often well funded by donations from wealthy scholars. Despite their reputation, temples and worship of Akasha are not always encouraged and in rare circumstances even banned by certain communities, cities, or nations. Often this is the case in oppressively authoritarian societies, or oligarchal ones as they fear the enlightenment and education of their underclass could lead to their own loss of wealth and power. In these societies knowledge still trickles through to avoid other competing societies from overtaking them in economic or military power, but it is controlled and distributed as long as it does not interfere with the present power structure.
