The First Fin

The First Fin refers to the Oceanic Militia of Old Ashton. Twenty individuals, while untrained, are sworn to the protection of Old Ashton’s waters, patrolling daily to ensure the safety of visitors and citizens.

Composition

The First Fin is made up of 30 Men, with 10 Land Dwellers and Aquan. They serve as both the town guard and military of the land, each trained personally by Mukaga to ensure they are up for the task.

Equipment

Land Dwellers are provided with diving helmets to be able to operate better in underwater situations.

Weaponry

While everyone uses their own specific weapons, from magic to daggers, everyone is specifically trained in tridents and harpoons as well, allowing them to enter conflict and mobilize in both the water and on land without being hindered.

Training

Everyone in the Militia are retired adventurers or military, bringing their own training to the table. They were the adventurers who found success, got out of the profession early without further risk, and living comfortably off their earnings. While they are not spectacular or extraordinary, they do know how to handle their own and have defended a village or town under siege in the past.

History

The First Fin is in no way any officially recognized organization. The First Fin was originally an Adventuring Party who arrived in Old Ashton after taking on mercenary work in the surrounding area. At the time, Old Ashton was rather small, and Mukaga was not present on the island at the time. It was a tight knit community, but had no protections in place.
While there, the island was attacked by Sahuagin raiders, which The First Fin fended off. The residents were thankful, and hired The First Fin to clear out the den of them nearby. The First Fin obliged, and helped keep the island safe.
After discussing it, the Adventurers decided they liked the island, and didn’t like the risks they kept putting themselves into for negligible pay. As such, they decided to stay in Old Ashton and help protect the island.
Overtime, other adventurers who moved to Old Ashton joined The First Fin, bringing their own experience and training. Even after Mukaga claimed the Vircook Isles as his own, they were permitted to continue working so long as they did not overstep their boundaries.
The First Fin has limited entry into their ranks to only adventurers. They are sometimes referred as a “The Fishmongers”, due to the close knit, niche society they formed. While many are often referred to as snobs, The First Fin still holds their original values of protecting the Vircook Isles, and follow Mukaga’s orders.
