Orbesta

Orbesta, otherwise known as the Land of the Scale, is the Continent located East of Ferallum. Characterized by its rugged wastelands covered in plateaus capable of sustaining life, Orbesta is home to militaristic draconic races, led by an Ancient Dragon and its three children.

Geography

Orbesta is often viewed as an inhospitable wasteland, devoid of being able to sustain life. From coast to coast, it is primarily a rugged red of stone and dirt, with massive plateaus dotting the region. However, looks are deceiving when it comes to Orbesta.   Hidden beneath the Red Stone of the surface is a labyrinth of subterranean caverns, lush with flora and fauna. Complete with a massive river that flows from the south to north, these caverns are separate from the Histcar, making it its own region on its own.   Meanwhile, above the Red Stone upon the plateaus, vibrant oases and teeming jungles exist, allowing life and proper ecosystems to thrive. Often complete with a centralized lake, the rivers flow off these plateaus onto the Red Stone below. From there, the water creates a river that eventually flows into the caverns below. Through a series of geysers and tunnels, the water is eventually deposited back upon plateau, where the cycle begins anew.

Ecosystem

Orbesta relies heavily upon the water cycle to sustain the delicate balance of the land. If one were to place a toy boat into the lake of one plateau, it would eventually circle to each other plateau and end up back at the first lake. The rivers of Orbesta circle through the continent, sustaining the life of both the plateaus and the caverns.   The surface of the Orbesta, simply called “The Red Stone” consists primarily of red rocky terrain. At first look it appears inhospitable, but Fauna can be found in abundance, traveling down from the plateau often to hunt. Flora can also be found around the rivers that flow down from the Plateaus to the caverns below the region. Bears, Warthogs, Wolves and Deer are common, but dinosaurs like Ankylosaurus, Clawfoots and Stegosaurus exist too.   The top of the plateaus are teeming with life, flourishing forests and jungles with life, although many of them had been stripped of them for towns and cities. These plateaus often have a central lake which is fed through geysers from the Underground. Small animals like Boar, rabbit, and other rodents dominate the Plateaus, and are preyed upon by flying predators like Drakes and Giant Eagles who make their nests on the cliffs.   The Underground is dominated primarily by herbivores, like Deep Rothe and Stench Kow, but the damp climates and bog like environments also makes it ideal for large sized insects like Stirges and Centipedes, as well as various amphibians and reptiles, like Frogs and Crocodiles.

Fauna & Flora

Along with the ordinary fauna one would normally find in Wasteland Conditions, the most notable residents of Orbesta are the various Dinosaurs. Seemingly from a time long past, these large beasts are said to have ruled the region from the beginning of Pallet, leftovers from Asteria, the world before.   Dinosaurs are often in competition with the Drakes and Wyverns that also make their homes in Orbesta. Over time the Dinosaurs had evolved to take on their flying adversaries, from developing spiked tails to acidic spit to defend themselves. Some of the weaker dinosaurs even learned to burrow through the stones and live within the caverns.   The Alpha Predators of the region are the Three Dragon Princes, and their father.

Natural Resources

The region of Orbesta is rich with metal and gems, often attributed to its early development within the timeline of Pallet. Many cultures and races flock to Orbesta for the bounty, often to be chased away by the Draconic Races that inhabit Orbesta, greedily keeping the hoard for themselves.   While these minerals provide great opportunity for those of Orbesta, it is also the cause of great strife. The metals and gems of the region are constantly fought over by the three brothers, each sending their forces to fight their brothers in a bid to control the resources. It is these battles that make many believe the iconic Red Stone of the Continent is the blood of the battles stained into the very region itself.   Finally, the region is also rich in clay, and many of the structures of the region are made of Brick. While the Dragonborne and other races guard their metals closely, they openly and willingly trade their clay to other nations.
