An Interview with Fennec Jackalslicer

Are you a morning person, or more of a night owl?
I’m… often up nights. Some days I’ve missed the morning entirely. Hobgoblins are not so built for it.
What’s the first thing you notice about a person when you meet them?
Their confidence. How well they fit in.
You see a huge spider in your room, what do you do?
I’d leave it, except it could be a spy. You never know around here. I’d have to take it outside.
If you could go back and change one decision you made in the past, what would you change?
Um, maybe talk my friends out of…? No. Wouldn’t work anyway.
Tell me about your first kiss.
I… Cody made Rouge kiss me on a dare once.
Do you give people second chances?
Of course. Someone around here has to.
Are you a cat person or a dog person?
Dogs… don’t like goblinoids.
Do you think you’re attractive?
I… no. Not with these ears.
What’s your worst habit?
Um, gambling I guess? Or getting talked into things.
When was the last time you cried?
About a month ago, but nobody saw that.
Are you a good liar?
OK. Not as good as some of the others.
What’s your biggest pet peeve?
Being talked down to.
Have you ever had your heart broken?
Ha. Not like that.
Are you more likely to use your fists or your words in an argument?
I’ll draw my scimitars if I have to. It’s not usually my first choice.
What’s something you’re naturally good at?
Caring about people, it seems.
What’s something you had to work hard to be good at?
Making friends.
Can you tell when someone is flirting with you?
If they do, then no.
Do you think money can buy happiness?
It can buy protection, which might be the same thing.
Do you believe in destiny?
Only as something you forge.
Are you a good cook?
Not really. I’m okay. Both of my parents are better.
What do you think happens after you die?
I choose to believe there is peace.
Did you have to grow up fast?
Most nonhumans do.
Who do you look up to?
The other kids for their confidence and street smarts. My mum for her kindness and commitment.
When you go to a tavern, what do you order?
Dark berry juice if I’m on my own. When I’m with my friends, I let Cody pick the beer.
What do you like most about yourself?
I’ve learned to heal people pretty well, which is helpful a lot.
What do you like least about yourself?
I wish I had the confidence of the others.
Do you want kids someday?
Maybe. I don’t know.
Are you a planner or more spontaneous?
I mostly just go with whatever’s happening around me.
Can you keep a secret?
Yes.
Do you like being the centre of attention?
Not the centre, no.
If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you do today?
Pray.
Do you enjoy getting all dressed up for a special occasion?
If I’m with the right people.
Where do you feel safe?
In my room. And I used to always feel safe around my friends, although I’m not as certain now.
Do you love or hate being alone?
I hate it.
What’s the last nightmare you remember having?
Um, it was about being stabbed. And my friends being stabbed.
Do you admit to mistakes when you make them?
Not usually. Too nervous.
Do you want to grow up to be like your parents?
Um, in some ways, yeah.
How do you deal with being sick? Are you stoic or super whiney?
I try to be stoic.
What did your parents expect from you when you were born?
To help keep the family and their work going.
Do you have a strong sense of style?
Not yet. Maybe I’m still figuring things out.
Would you rather camp outdoors or stay the night in an inn?
I like the outdoors. I like camping.
Is there a food that most people like but you absolutely hate?
Humans cook their meat longer than I like it, but that’s about all.
Are you more of a hoarder or a minimalist?
I… don’t know. I guess I don’t buy that much for myself, but I already have a lot of things from my parents.
Are you superstitious?
…I guess so.
Are you the kind of person who remembers people’s birthdays and pet’s names and stuff?
Only people I’m close to.
What do you do to feel better when you’re sad?
I hang out with my friends.
Is it hard for you to trust someone?
I don’t think so.
Are you susceptible to peer pressure?
Yes, definitely.
If you decided to stop adventuring and settle down, what kind of job would you take?
…doctor?
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I’ve, uh, I’ve always wanted to be a cleric, actually, which, I now am, a bit.
