Gifted

Although not a medical condition in nature, the people of the land call it a disease. Gifted is a term given to people with unusual magic. Although uncommon, it's not as rare as people believe. But because of the growing fear of the unknown and growing fear of the Shuch's influence, people seek to ride the world of the Gifteds, believing they are the messengers of the forsaken.
The Gifted are hunted and culled in order to stop the spread of the Shuch's disease. While feared, it is not feared by all. Those with more progressive minds who either disregard religion or those who study history care only to made the unknown known. The City of Atemdo is an example of the people not caring if someone is Gifted. This city is deeply religious, but they study and practice the words of the Red King and understand that all should be loved and the new should be cherished. 
Gifted are uncategorizable so it is difficult to example them in simple terms other than those who can not conform to their magic. The famous magic of the Gifted is prescience and clairvoyance. The MC of this story is a Gifted with magic that allows her to connect people's minds and communicate without speaking. She keeps her magic a secret, pretending to have little magic to avoid the hatred she would receive. Due to her status in the kingdom, it is even more important she hides her magic as it would give kingdoms and power-hungry nobles a reason to overthrow the monarch. 
Another character, Ryker, is a shadow walker. His magic is especially feared as it can be linked more directly with the Shuch, the God of darkness and death. He walks a thin line of using it in the shadows to complete his job while hiding it in the open. 
The Gifted, as stated, are uncommon, more uncommon than those born with no magic at all, but are still less rare than a unicorn.
