Erfburg

Erfburg is the capital city of the Rindenheimian Empire. It lies on the western coast of the continent of Aren in the Bay of Firden. It is home to over 8 million people. The city is divided into two distinct parts. The North and the South. Northern-Erfburg is ruled over by the House of Riess, while the south is governed by the Central Imperial Government.   Erfburg is as one of, if the largest city in all of Aren. Additionally, it is regarded as one of the most powerful and the most expensive city to live in. Most of the people living in central Erfburg are from old noble houses, large factory owners, military families, merchants, and innovators. In fact, Erfburg houses the most ultra-high-net-worth individuals on the continent. Erfburg has the highest density of Rindenheimians living in it compared even to the rest of the Empire. The sizable population of Ordins, depending on their income, live among the wealthy in the downtown districts, the numerous suburbs, the outskirts of the city, or in the worst cases, on the streets and slums.   The capital is home to numerous high-end educational institutions, such as the Academy of Erfburg, and multiple military academies as well. The city is home to multiple parks of varying sizes, while the outskirts of the city are dense with the smog of the empires rapidly industrializing war-machine.   The old districts are described by those unfamiliar to the city as "a complete maze" with entire streets bricked off, and with houses seemingly overlapping with each other, while the newer ones have been pre-planned to be somewhat logical.   The capital is home to the heart of the Imperial government, particularly the northern parts, in which most of the nobles, the extremely wealthy, as well as the parliament are. However, absolute power over the city, as well as the Empire firmly resides in the hands of the Emperor, Erich von Rindenheim.

Demographics

Erfburg is said to be a miniature version of the Empire with its notably diverse population. While being believed to be unique amongst the Imperial cities for its high density of Rindenheimians living in it, only 40% of it's population is made up of ethnic rindenheimians, while the remaining 60% is made up of Ordins.

Government

Erfburg is unique for not only being split in half but also being governed by two different administrative entities. The north is governed by the House of Riess, while the south is ruled over by the Central Imperial Government itself. This leads to the different districts having differences in legal rulings. For example, jaywalking in the southern district is punishable by a fine of up to 150 marks, while it is not even registered as a crime in the northern district. taxation is also different, for the north enjoys lower taxes on alcohol, and even taxes the wealthy less than anywhere else in the Empire.   The policing in the city is done by two main organizations. Erfburgs Police Service, and the Imperial Guard. The Guard works mainly in the northern district with the particular exception of the Imperial Castle in the southern district. The police have become more and more militarized over the years, and currently, are indistinguishable from military personnel.

Industry & Trade

Erfburg has been rapidly industrializing over the years and has seen a massive boom in production and immigration because of it. Most, if all factories lie on the outskirts of the city. These factories employ most of Erfburgs Ordin population and support and enable the Empire's ever-expanding mechanized military force.   Global trade and commerce, while having a rocky start is currently thriving, and allowing the Empire to export its culture to foreign nations. The Empire sustains an uneasy trade-alliance with one of its neighbors, the Kingdom of Nuroy to which it mostly sells raw resources to.

Architecture

The ancient city boasts multiple different styles of building. Everything from the original Firdenian buildings, Gothic avenues, and boulevards to the great Imperial Castle.

Geography

The city is divided into two. The north and the south. The two are connected by a massive bridge, titles the "Bridge of might" The northern coast of the Firdenian Bay connects the two as well. The terrain is mostly flat and shares a coastline with the sea.
