Hevolux
God of Crafts and Hope
Divine Domains
Hevolux holds domain over Knowledge and Light.
As the god of Knowledge, Hevolux and his aspects are present at the birth of every new invention, craft, or idea. Hevolux inspires makers to create the most wonderful and fascinating things. He chronicles all the world's knowledge of creating into a Book of Inventives. Many craftsmen worship Hevolux and will often pray to him to imbue them with talent or skill. Often though Hevolux leaves his followers to their devices, enchanted with their creativity and skill. Despite this, he has still been known to give the occasional nudge in the right direction.
As the god of Light, Hevolux functions like the sun reincarnate. He is the embodiment of hope's persistent light in darkness. In dark times it is said that if you pray to him you will see his light guiding you out. He brings light to the world via the sun's rays and with the promise that tomorrow will shine again. Hevolux inspires many to see things through if only on the hope that it will be worth it in the end.
Artifacts
A menhir was erected at the site where it is said that Hevolux ascended. A handsome elven man with a crown floating above his heard in the carving. The man's eyes are shut as if focusing intently upon something. The stone itself seems to be centuries old, carved of a strange stone that seems to gleam unnaturally in the sun's light. It is said that the likeness carved upon the statue is Hevolux but most are hesitant to say with certainty as the cavalier god tweaks his appearance to suit his whims.
The Book of Inventives is considered almost a legend. The Temple of the Light truly believes in its existence while most commonfolk are skeptical of the idea of a book with all inventions.
The Mallet of Hevolux is another artifact and is said to have been used by Hevolux before his ascension in making houses and developing new irrigation systems. It appears as an ordinary, worn-out wooden mallet that always strikes true in matters of crafting. While not useful to adventurers, many inventors dream of finding the mallet and creating the most wonderful things. Alongside the Book of Inventives, the Temple of Light seeks to reclaim both of these artifacts to further spread knowledge and hope.
Divine Symbols & Sigils
A wooden hammer framed against a golden sun is the primary symbol of Hevolux representing his ingenuity and the hope he inspires.
Wooden hammers above a door indicates that an inventor or crafter is selling there or in some cases lives there. The Temple of Light awards brooches with Hevolux's symbol at the annual Festival of Inventions.
Tenets of Faith
- Let the mind run free in creation in a truest expression of the self.
- Carry the light of hope, even in darkness it shines within.
- A better future is ahead, keep striving for it.
- We are stronger as one, do not leave others in despair.
Holidays
Festival of Inventions
At the Festival of Inventions, makers, crafters, and inventors from all over travel to one of three cities for a week long festival celebrating their creations. Typically hosted in Flamering, the Festival of Inventions has also been hosted in Setamral and Owltree before. The city is decorated grandly for this with enchanted flames sparkling along roads like starlight and ribbons being wrapped around signs and lampposts. It is said that during the festival, Hevolux walks among the people observing what has been created and offering his sincerest excitement at what they have done. The Temple of the Light co-hosts the festival with whichever city it is in and interviews each creator in attendance on what they've made and how they feel they've pushed the bounds of what they can do. On the final day the Temple of the Light will award brooches with Hevolux's symbol to those they feel best demonstrated freedom of creativity and carrying the light of hope. While this could seem limiting, they are understood more abstractly for the festival.

Personal history
Born in the midst of the Undoing and named Sai, he grew up in a time of hardship and chaos. As a child he saw the way his community struggled. The way they fought for every scrap of food. He listened to stories of the magic that had once pervaded their daily lives. The way they used to weave the aether in the world to build simple but beautiful houses. Filling their hearts with magical flames and cultivating delicious foods. Even when he was small, he was enraptured with the stories and longed to see it for himself. Time passed and he reached adulthood at 35 years old and it was then he gained the name Hevolux.
Hevolux held onto his childhood hope that he would one day see the stories his elders had told him. In an effort to realize that, perhaps in a more mundane way, he threw himself into learning how to use tools and build homes. By the time he was 40 he excelled with practical tools. He built massive homes of wood and earth to keep them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. He developed new methods of farming and irrigation, rotating crops to encourage growth and digging trenches to help water flow all over the fields. Thanks to the efforts of Hevolux and his peers, the sun elves endured, not quite thriving in the Undoing. Most definitely surviving. Though they did not know at the time, the Undoing was beginning to draw to a close. In a cacophonous time of change, all the struggles came to a climax. For nearly a century the sun elves had languished under the unseen oppression of the Aether Eaters. Countless efforts made to discover the source of their faded magic and yet no closer to learning the truth.
Once Hevolux felt he had done all he could to better his people's lot without knowing the source of the problem, he set off to settle it once and for all. On a clouded night, he made camp in the roots of a massive treat, almost split by a strike of lightning some time ago. A vision came to him, a pale woman in dark cloth stood next to a swirling dusky blue portal. When he awoke he was inspired by the vision and resumed his search in earnest. This time, he found the dusky blue portal as dawn came. As the first golden rays brushed the world in hues of pink, orange, red, and gold he saw a pale, slender woman wearing long black robes with ebony hair; and piercing dark grey eyes that reminded him of that inbetween of clouded night and day. Little if anything was spoken between them. One raised an ancient staff, drawing aether to her and speaking softly. The other drew a practiced dagger and began murmuring as the beasts finally showed face.
The two worked in tandem, supporting the sealing chant and fending off Aether Eaters. When the spell was complete, Hevolux and the stranger grasped her staff and slammed the hilt into the earth with a crack like thunder. In the same moment the beasts made a final desperate attack. The aether dispersed in a potent blast, sealing the portal and banishing the beasts. Hevolux fell to his knees, suffering from wounds he had powered through. The stranger falling beside him, similarly afflicted. In the place they fell, twin menhirs were erected, no one knows by what or by who. The Crafter enshrined as a relief on the stone with a crown floating above his head. His eyes are shut in focus and his hair tumbles over his shoulders. Here our Light in the Dark sacrificed himself for his people and arose as the God of Crafts and Hope. In honor of his sacrifice, a menhir was erected at the spot of his death and ascension. When the Ancient Sun retreated from the world, Hevolux took her place in a way becoming the God of Crafts and Hope, symbolized by a wooden hammer framed against a sun; with domain over Knowledge and Light. Over time as Hevolux became known to more people, his knowledge of crafts expanded and inspired some of the greatest minds of our time. The story of his ascent was directly revealed to his people and the Temple of the Light was created to spread knowledge and hope wherever it was needed.
