The Biting North

Geography

The Biting North is Oxdara's northern polar ice cap, a large open and flat sheet of ice that surrounds a singular frozen volcano. The area is covered in cracks that descend miles into the cold emptiness of nothing, before being plunged into the frigid ice water.   The ice volcano is the only volcano known of on the material plane to release chunks of ice, and freezing cold water instead of magma and molten stone.

Fauna & Flora

There is very little flora around the Biting North, most flora existing underwater, things like allege and seaweed.   There is also very little fauna, the animals that live around the ice cap being large blubbered mammals, Whales, Seals, Narwhales, so on. The only humanoid creatures to live on the ice cap are the Ice Giants.

Natural Resources

Alongside the Southern Ice Plains, the Plane of Ice, and the permafrost sunken iceberg in Derrock, the Biting North is one of the few locations where you can acquire never melt ice. A unique kind of ice that is so cold it keeps itself frozen, even when in warmer climates, and is used by many wizards and sorcerers with an affinity for ice magic as a spellcasting focus, and a catalyst for their power.   The never melt ice was most notably used in recent history by Astaroth when he worked alongside the Dragon Kalidra in forging Starbreaker, a powerful staff and artefact originally designed to kill Astaroth himself.

History

The Biting North was originally a small isolated island of ice, back when the Dragons ruled the plane, before the Tal arrived. After the Tal arrived and many Dragons fled the plane, the Eternal Dragon Badrick the White Storm, retreated to the north, not wanting to witness his kin die as they fought to survive against the Tal's war with the old Gods. It is thought that Badrick sleeps beneath the ice, his very presence causing the water to freeze around him, forming the ice volcano above his head to expel breath when needed.    His long hibernation is thought to end one day, and on that day he'll consume the world. The truth of the matter is that Badrick has no interest in mortals, being the only creature in existence to only speak in ancient Draconic, refusing to learn anything else, and he sleeps purely to have no interactions with mortals. Should the day ever arise that he does wake, he would more likely hunt the marine life that lives around the ice cap, and head back asleep.
