Glacier Rift Sea

Geography

The Glacier Rift Sea is the artic sea to the north of Venka, separating Venka from the Biting North. The frigid water of the sea is filled with large glacier's and chunks of ice, the beauty of the sunlight reflecting through the ice during dawn and dusk attracts travellers from all over Oxdara. It is said that some who look at the natural wonder are granted with a glimpse of the Eternal Dragon Badrick the White Storm; that those who do catch this glimpse later develop an affinity for ice magic.

Localized Phenomena

The further north one travels in the Glacier Rift Sea, and the closer they get to the Biting North the colder the waters get.

Fauna & Flora

Many different animals live atop the ice plains of the Glacier Rift Sea, though there is a distinct lack of flora in the region.   A full list of the fauna found in the region:
  • Blue Spotted Polar Bears
  • Venkan Penguins
  • White Drake Seals
  • Blue Orca
  • White Guard Drakes
  • Biting Northern Fox
  • Glacier Rift Whale

Natural Resources

The main resource of value to the nearby Venkans is the glacial ice itself. Chunks of the ice that float southwards are gathered by the Venkan-Ori in Kal Iceside or Landbrot, they are then melted and bottled into Glacial water which is exported across Oxdara, or used in brewing mead and ale, giving the beverages a refreshing natural chill, even in the warmest climets.

History

Not many excursions have happened into the Glacier Rift Sea, the regions thick ice making it hard for vessels to sail through, and the lack of flora in the region make travel across the land hard. The few excursions that have been successful have been via wolf or Guard Drake, teams of the animals pulling along lightweight sledge that only carry their master, and the essentials for surviving the cold.    White and Silver Dragonborn of Venka have been the most successful in their journeys across the seas.
