Prophetic Energy

There's hundreds, maybe thousands of prophecies in the world, and all of them are trouble.

Prophecies are commonplace in this world. They can take many shapes and forms, come from any number of people, and tend to vary widely in terms of accuracy. What does not change is the energy created by these prophecies that infuses parts of the world. While this energy might not actually be responsible for the results of the prophecy, it does tend to add flavor, among other effects.

It Lurks

Prophecies come in many shapes and sizes, and in some cases aren't even properly handed down. There is a certain mysticism involved in the actual completion of these prophecies, and myriad scientists and mages alike have been baffled as to how some have actually come about. We can't even properly attribute prophetic energy, despite the name.
It can be detected by the proper equipment, but it cannot be quantified. Nor does this detection extend to somehow shielding someone from it. Prophecies happen whether we want them to or not, with sound effects and proper lighting.

Ambiance

Like many things in this world, prophetic energy has less to do with the practical fulfillment of the prophecy, and more to do with the aesthetics. Prophetic energy causes ambient music to spring up, a glow to enter the air, and on occasion has been responsible for complete wardrobe changes. As such, it becomes less about fulfillment of the prophecy and more about being an indicator that one is involved in a prophecy. It does make it easy for people to avoid someone in the thick of a potential doomsday event.

Signs of Things to Come

Prophetic energy has bafflingly little to do with how a prophecy will turn out. However, it does have a great deal to do with the journey along the way. If a prophecy says, for example, that rivers will run red, then the prophetic energy in the world will cause this to happen. Unless of course the redness requires an action from a person, in which case it does nothing.

Larger Elements At Play

The exception to the principles above come where large scale prophecies are concerned. There are perhaps a dozen or so that have been handed down to us for generations, looping around and around at intervals, following set patterns. In these instances, the prophetic energy is still present but by most accounts takes on a different form.

Manifestation

Manifestations of prophecies take several different forms, and usually depend on what kind of place it originated or what kind of person. There are strange carvings, songs, encoded gibberish, the usual mix. Prophetic energy, however, remains standard in its manifestations, in that it usually provides ambiance for the prophecy in question.
