Oojyl's Obelisk

Oojyl's Obelisk is a lovely town. Highly defensible, intriguing history, and an absolute adherence to their chosen aesthetic. Until this town came on the map, the term "space mage" did not exist. Now, it's an admirable title.
Their primary claim to fame is the fact that they made it to the moon before a single scientist managed it.

Government

The town has an elected mayor. The mayor at present is the subject of some scandal, as he was seen in the close company of a scientist, which every magician knows is untoward. The fact that he may be in love with this scientist makes it even worse to the inhabitants of this town.

History

Oojyl's Obelisk was created when the mage Oojyl, somewhere around the year 1800, attempted to show up his scientist coworkers by getting to one of the moons before they did. He did so by crafting his own spaceship, modeled after the versions that were being attempted at the time, and then used magic to fly it.
He crashed, rather drastically, into the side of the Berthevier Mountain. The entire crew was lost, but the ship was remarkably intact for something that had just plummeted from a great height onto a pile of rocks. A number of other mages took up Oojyl's goal, and they transformed the wreckage into a tower arcana that became the site for the Moon Portal.
A town grew up around the tower, right on the side of the mountain. There were a few initial attempts at witch burnings, but those were easily turned aside, and pretty soon the locals saw the benefit of knowing people who could go to the moon. Traditionally, the rulers of Teliseo support the town, but only because they have to. The people of the Obelisk tend to be rather smug, as well as being uncomfortably powerful and independent.

At Present

A few pieces of the obelisk are unstable and it seems likely that they will fall off the mountain soon unless something is done to stop it.
The blacksmith's guild is forming an annual festival celebrating weapons made of space metal. It promises to be a chaotic affair.
