Tipping Point

The wall had stood for decades, an architectural marvel when it came to its defenses. Its gates so heavy it took a whole hour to fully lift them, yet they could close in a mere flash. Its thickness so massive that even a siege engine would not get through, nevermind the creatures from the beast lands. And its height so large but also so smooth, not even the best climbers could make it up.

As for flying creatures, the enclosed archer spots and secured ballistae were impossible for them to attack. Only death awaited any creature or army that aimed to conquer these wide walls, that stretched the entire valley, built on top of the bones of those that had died from exhaustion during its construction.

A legacy of blood, in more ways than one. A source of arrogance, of foolish pride. A disgrace, that marked the country as one that should be erased from history. So secure and powerful did it make the leadership feel, they had risked more and more in the beast lands. Today, they were paying the price.

The large creature walked, and with every step the ground shook. Still, even if it were to try, it would not climb the walls, so tall stood they that not even this creature could topple them. Yet it cared not. It came closer. And closer. And then it started running.

The wall was massive. It was thick. But precisely because of the size of its constructing boulders, there was no tight fit. Gravity was what held it in place. A thrown boulder could not move it. But the creature had momentum. So much energy within its run. And a horn that was strong enough to pierce through.

The massive beast had seen a gap between the rocks. It was the place it struck. The horn, more solid than iron, pushed it way in. The momentum made the creature instoppable. And with a loud slam against the wall, it pushed the boulders away enough to start a chain reaction. The creature made its way through, with most of the wall coming down behind it.
