Planar Watch Item in Out of the Shadows | World Anvil

Planar Watch

Each world and even some thresholds out there have different flows of time. Some go faster or slower, some fluctuate, making it incredibly hard to keep track of what time it is elsewhere. This is where planar watches come in. These hourworks use a complex combination of gears and planar essence to maintain links and track the flow of time through all connected planes. The better designed a planar watch is, the more planar links it can contain.
Normal clocks tend to just follow the normal flow of time of their current plane. This makes it real hard to figure out how fast or slow the plane is flowing. However, planar watches help resolve that. Just make sure you connect one to a fixed-flow plane, then look at the clock for that plane and compare that to a normal clock. No more getting lost in time and missing crucial appointments.   Planar watches have been around in various forms for millennia. As time marches on, some forms are forgotten, yet new ones are discovered.
Plothooks
An ancient watch has been discovered, said to have belonged to a powerful Ancient. Following its planar links might help discover echoes of said Ancient. However, other interested parties are on the hunt for the watch.   A watchmaker is on the verge of discovering a new trick, but needs help chasing an echo. To properly test the watch, one has to venture into rather obscure Thresholds and worlds. Down the rabbithole one goes.
