Here comes the rain again

It almost seemed like a typical Dutch Thursday, gray skies in the afternoon, the sun constantly behind clouds, a delayed train moving past fields filled with cows while breaking the speed limit to make up for lost time. The only exception was that behind the train, darker skies were chasing it. Inside the train, Rook was nervously tapping his leg in response to that.

He had planned to take this trip after the storm had come and gone, yet it had been delayed and here he was, the storm on his heels. After me the flood? Hah! That would require the train to be on schedule! He was really going to cut it close, he could only hope the train wouldn't get even more delayed. It now rushed past a slow train, which quickly disappeared out of sight into the darkness behind.

Time flies when you're constantly checking the weather radar, especially when you have to skip the ads every single time. Soon, Rook found himself at his destination. He quickly went for the door, to make sure he had nobody in front of him. The second the train stopped, he smashed the button to open the doors. By the time they finally opened, he already was considering smashing his way through. This storm gave him the shivers, he didn't want to get caught by it. Lord knows what it dragged with it from the Toxic Wastelands.

He practically flew up the stairs, across the bridge, then down to the bike storage. A mental command unlocked the bicycle seconds before he ripped it out of the rack and started cycling as if his life depended on it. On his left, it looked like a moonless night had already fallen. Pure darkness, that's the only way he could describe it. He cycled his lungs out, feeling that he was beyond his limits and would soon regret going at this speed.

With roughly half a kilometer to go, the wind burst through the treeline on his left. He was too late, too slow. If only the train hadn't been delayed. Mere seconds after the sound came over him, so did the water, drowning out all of his senses.
