Doel Nuclear Power Station
Located in Doel just north-west of Antwerp, the DNPS is the only active nuclear power plant in Flanders, and one of three in the United Netherlands (the others being Borssele and Europort). All three were hit by the Toxic Tide, but only Doel was damaged to the point of radiation leaks. Existing minor damages in the construction cascaded into partial failures. Currently Doel has 8 reactors, of which Doel-3 and Doel-4 are closed with damage, with Doel-5 to Doel-8 constructed afterwards.
Because of its proximity to Antwerp, the damage to the DNPS drew national attention and became a high priority. However, corruption caused mediocre solutions. While the new reactors are sturdy and Doel-1 and Doel-2 were properly reinforced, the damaged reactors were poorly handled. As a result, while only a limited amount of radiation escapes into the water, far more has radiated the nearby land, turning nearby settlements into ghost towns.
The DNPS is guarded by 280 soldiers, which legally outrank the Sinjoor Inc. forces that guard the nearby area. While the reactors are safe, the radiated ground nearby is a liability due to attracting toxic shamans. Due to fearing terrorisms, the surrounding area can be considered the equivalent of an MCT Zero-Zone, with any suspicious individuals being shot on sight.
