Bosun Murray walked the floors in what he would of course claim to be a random inspection. In reality it was just spending some idle time hanging with the crew, while also keeping an eye out. But nobody would make any kind of comment about it. The crew of the CS Ramses had great respect for their boatswain, a man who protected both the ship's safety and his crew's integrity.
The ship groaned shortly as it hit a bit of turbulent waters, but the crew's legs were solid enough to not be bothered by the sudden sway. The Via Solaris had been a bit rough in these areas for a few years now, but nothing they couldn't deal with. All it meant was they needed a bit of extra maintenance.
As he walked by the sensor rooms, someone waved him over. "Hey Killian, take this will you? I'd like your opinion. Just listen to it while you do your rounds, I can use a fresh opinion." He nodded as he took the earbud. It sounded like an amplified range of part of the Hypersea spectrum surrounding them.
After a chat, while keeping half a mind on the sounds, he moved on with his inspection. Greeting here and there, receiving updates, providing feedback, chatting about tonight's dinner and whatnot. All the while, he heard the sounds. There was something to it, a disturbance. Subtle, even amplified. But the sensor operator was right, there was something going on.
Lost in thoughts for a second, he wondered what to do with this. If they indeed detected something strange out there, probably they should get some scientists involved. As he weighed options, some sound caught his attention. Again. Again. Louder, softer.
To be an excellent Stormfarer, one needs good instincts. If there is one thing Killian Murray had, it was good instincts. The third occurrence of the sound sufficed to trigger flight-mode. Almost without a conscious thought, he opened his controls.
The ship began to groan just as he activated defense mode, the sound of dying metal surrounding him as emergency shutters slammed shut all across the ship. Alarms went off while the sound in his earbud screamed then silenced, as the ship fell out of Hyperspace.
