In the ancient past, the whole of Theros was terrorized by a powerful empire, ruled by the seemingly-unstoppable archons. Just as it seems like their grip would stretch unbroken across the world for all time, their empire fell, collapsing into ruin under the pressures of the humanoids they enslaved. In their place rose the poles, and though the great cities have existed for centuries, the remaining archons still look upon them viciously, seeing them as reminded of all they have lost.   Built from Light Though the archons are unearthly almost heavenly beings, they are not made from the starstuff of Nyx like the gods and their servants. The bodies of the archons are crafted from pure, dazzling light,m and their skin emanates blinding fire. It's been said that looking upon an archon without its armor can burn the eyes from the skull of a man, and no living human has ever gotten close enough to an archon to try it.
