Anvilwrought Raptor

Across Theros, dozens of metallic creatures fly through the air, stampede along the ground, or swim through the seas. These mechanical beasts are the creation of Purphoros, God of the Forget, who enjoys his free time by seeing how closely he can recreate the various animals that wander Theros.   Though some of his most devout worshippers eventually learn the skill as well, Purphoros' artistry in this endeavor is unmatched. But while all his creatures are beautiful, few are as elegant to watch, or as dangerous to approach, as what the Meletians call the anvilwrought raptor.   Deadly Art Commonly seen in the skies about the Siren Sea, usually around the mystic Dakra isles, an anvilwrought raptor can serve as both a good luck charm or an omen of ill-fortune, depending on the distance it is viewed from. With a body made from interlocking plates of highly polished steel, the raptor's body catches the sun at almost every angle, glinting and shining so that it can be seen all the way from the horizon. When seen from afar, the anvilwrought raptor can represent a creative vision from Purphoros, and when seen closely, its tendency to attack is seen as representative of Purphoros' notorious anger.   Resistant Construction The same plating that allows for the raptor's natural, life-like movements also sever it well as armor in battle, making it difficult to harm. Though it is not infused with the substance of Nyx, and therefore can be injured with normal weapons, its steel frame is made from high-quality ore pulled directly from the hearts of volcanos by Purphoros himself.   Only a true warrior can help to fell an anvilwrought raptor, requiring not only great skill in combat, but a sharp eye and a quick hand, to slide the weapon's blade beneath the raptor's armor and shred its interior mechanisms. If this should fail, or a soldier does not have the proper weapons and training, their only hope lies in wrestling with the raptor. Its means of flight are not magical, and pinning it to the ground slows it, allowing it to be beaten in a prolonged test of endurance. Neither method is easy, and both are highly risky, and so while time and again hardened warriors have attempted to turn hunting the anvilwrought raptor into an ultimate test of sport and strength, such efforts always fall through in the end.
