Tapestries Courses

One of the most innovative and significant technologies in Duankh is the Tapestries Courses (Tapestries) that serve as the primary public transportation of Citadel the capital city of Philae. Due to the sheer massiveness of Citadel travel between the districts and even within a district can be long and arduous. The Tapestries were created as a way to move quickly throughout the city without the need to slog through the city proper. Flying carpets and pre-determined routes are what make up the Tapestries, a passenger simply arrives at a checkpoint, shows their Tapestry Pass and they are granted board on a flying carpet that flows smoothly throughout the city between checkpoints that are also between districts. These flying carpets are not able to operate outside of the Tapestries as they are magically bound to their routes. The whole system just works and has been a staple of Citadel for hundreds of years. Unfortunately, not all citizens or visitors to Citadel are able to obtain Tapestry Passes meaning the mundane mode of transportation, walking, is still the primary form of transportation within the city. There are architects that have plans to expand the Tapestries beyond their district hopping boundaries, making them flow all through the city but an endeavor of that scale is costly and time-consuming.

Social Impact

Those that are fortunate enough to obtain a Tapestry Pass have their travel life simplified within Citadel. As the capital of Philae and a major trade hub, many people visit Citadel every day, those with wealth do not want to be bothered with the riff-raff on the streets of Citadel, they simply want to get where they need to go as fast as possible with the least amount of interaction as possible. For those that are literally looked down upon as the flying carpets ride the sky, life without a Tapestry Pass can be depressing but many try to gain fortune or join a guild that has access simply so they can explore the city from above like the nobles do.
Inventor(s)
The Tapestries was designed by an architect known as Hau Windminer, an Air Genasi from Kala-Kau. It is said he received a vision of a grand design involving the use of flying carpets. First, he had to invent flying carpets then he chartered a trading ship to Philae there he introduced Philae to his invention, from there he earned renown as a member of the Inventors Council, an artisan guild that specializes in inventing new creations. Once he was well known for his genius and his wealth, he drew up the first plans for the Tapestries, presented them to the Philaen Council, and was granted contracts to begin constructing the courses immediately.
Access & Availability
The Tapestries are a common use technology for those fortunate enough to obtain a Tapestry Pass. It has become a staple in public transportation although it is not open to all the public.
