Devilish form and powers is the reward of favored followers of devil cults. Only evil people are transformed thus today, but the form is hereditary, so most tieflings are not evil. Ancient tiefling empire empowered by worship of the devil Mal'Gor once dominated the western side of the continent before it was destroyed by human followers of Valkor.
