Session 5 Report

General Summary

The group begin along he harbor of Erengrad discussing the best way to go south to Bilganthur. They hear tell of Sea Captains that congregate in a row of taverns and travel there before arriving at the Tilted Slag, a place of complete and utter il repute. There they speak to the half orc bartender who tells them he’s not a sea captain and he is not looking for a few passengers. Overhearing the clearly out of place party, a man who was beyond intoxicated named Gregor von Trike said he had a ship. Before the party could turn him down or make a deal, the bar is intruded by 4 thugs led by Thargil looking for the party. Most of the party was able to sneak out back, but Hoth in his full plate stumbled with haste and was seen, the thugs began to chase the party who left through some alleys and began to disappear in an busy street.
Before they were able to catch their breath men in jet black full plate were seen on the street shaking down locals looking for people of their description, s the party ran from them just as they were seen. Running away got them caught on the main docks with the armed plated soldiers on one side and Thargil and his thugs on the other bearing down on them. They looked to the ships near them only to see a drunk Gregor trying to get on the ship and chose to board the ship with him. With seconds to spare as these black knights and Thargil’s men fight to reach the party first the group hastily agrees to pay a highly intoxicated Gregor an exorbitant price. Once agreed the sideways sailor, spews orders at his new crew, the party, and reveals his ship to be a war ship by uncovering a ballista and using it to fire into the crowd of men, seemingly turning a few including Thargil into pink mist. The ship lurches out of the bay faster than the Erengrad military could get a pursuit and before the group knows it they are safe and on the open sea.
The party discussed where to go, Hoth mentioned that he served with a man in Dankeng named Germaine who was the heir to House Seatomb. House Seatomb owns land in Corval, down the coast from where they are. The group agreed to do there because rolling up into the military capital of the Kingdom seems like a fool hardy idea.
After a few weeks of sailing, the insane and possibly psychopathic Captain Gergor slams his ship into the shore and abandons it and the party telling them that this is where he takes his leave and the ship is theirs for a price, as it was never actually his ship. The party move ashore where they find themselves in the friendly and quaint town of Corval. After some rest and talk, they discover that Germaine, Hoth's old mentor, Actually lives up the hill at the Manor and Lighthouse. Travelling there and dealing with the old and senile gate guard, Michell, they are finally face to face with the drunk and dying figure of Germaine.
Germaine possess wounds from his last fight in Dankeng against the terrible and horrid Thrall, which the party has never heard of except Hoth, whom doesn't want to speak of it. They heal Germaine and he assist them with dinner and place to stay. Hitsuki interested in the Relic and the Old Elven writings on it peruses the library and finds some old tomes to help her. The party gets some info how to clear their name and starts that process withl Germaine. They then leave for the road and travel to Bliganthur.
Along the road they met a strange Gnome named Bubbles the Bauble dealer who's very existence is almost inter-dimensional. He aids them in the quest by granting the items for most of their wealth, including the long lost confession of the Sheriff of Telmora exonerating them of their initial crimes. After the strange and almost insane encoutner they continued until arriving in Bliganthur.
No one in this town was nice to them at first due to reason they would evenutally find out. They stayed at bar called Rays and met a woman named Rabynya who mentioned hiring but retracted her statement after a while. She left and the party met the leader of the dwarves who had accosted them because they weren't dwarven and they were asking about the Dragonforge. He finds out they are Alfric Bremans kids and wishes them luck and sends them into the mines.
They arrive a day later and enter the vaults of the abandon mines and after uncovering many brutal traps they arrive in the deepst part of the mine, the Blackstone chamber. Where they find the Dragon Azzarth encased in blackstone constantly burning his flesh off and dying only to regen it and never quite reached death.
He ask them if they have come to finish the job. He ask if they are Alfric as he can smell Alfric's magic, presumably from the sword. The party speak only hear the their father had imprisoned the dragon here and stole his horde. Against the better judgement of some of the members of the party, they free him at this behest. In his chest there a piece of the relic, turned into a spear, once attached the party gets transported to the past with another vision.

Deep within the mines of Bilganthur Azzarth consumes the gems and metals, killing and displacing the dwarves that live there. Carrathor is seen getting the news that one of his House's mines have been killed by a dragon. Infuriated at the loss of wealth he begins to order a company of men to that region.
Alfric is the Dutiful is seen bowing before his king who tells him that he is to go to Bilganthur and reclaim the mine and the town in the name of the Kingdom. Something in the eyes of the Father betrays his fidelity to the crown. An inkling of rebellion and distrust.
Riding out, Alfric briefs his Golden Company looking them all in the face as telling them that this is a job for the crown and duty calls. He says this, but everyone in company looks concerned for their leader. You get a since that their loyalty isn't to the crown. It's to something else.
Arriving in Bliganthur, Alfric consults with a Captain of the guard who is seen rounding up the displaced Dwarves and putting some to the sword and the other in a 'work' camp. Infuriated at the treatment of other beings, Alfric beheads the leader of the town's milita and declares that he is in charge, the townsmen, loyal to the crown spit and refuse. Alfric orders the golden company to kill them all. Everyone of them loyal to the crown. Men, women and children.
They never stood a chance as the highly elite knights spilled so much blood in the town the river ran red with it. The leader of the Dwarves was a young Clan leader who was planning on doing the same thing, Alfric and him made a deal to keep this a secret, his people would say nothing and the Golden Company would never break and Oath to Alfric. He just needed to make it worth everyone's while. Alfric kept the Golden Company stationed in the town and entered the mines with two of his closest Companions, the Married Tiefling couple, and began to hunt the dragon.
Alfric fought the Dragon for over a week as the Tieflings stole everything that was worth any money from the mines. Alfric took into the Blackstone room and set a trap for the Dragon, which one the dragon entered the molten Blackstone was released and encased the Dragon in it. The Dragon, in terrible pain but alive jumped out of the molten rock only to be met with Alfric, who turned the a Relic piece into a spear and shoved it deep in the dragon's heart, paralyze it and doom it into his fate.
The Dragon screamed in rage as the stone hardened and trapped him there, constantly burned, loosing and gaining new flesh every second.
Alfric walked away without looking back.

The party awakens to find the Dragon gone, seemingly escaping the mines, they run after it, to find it triggering the traps that were made for in the halls of the mine. There the party engaged in a long series of combat skirmishes with the Dragon, using the traps they found to their advantage. After a long furious bout, the Dragon finally succumbed to his wounds and his life faded into memory, just like it was always intended.   Exhausted and beaten, the party took a long deserved rest, in the now safe and halls of the Dragonforge.

DM's Notes

The party did good, they just need to learn a trap when they see one. there was a lot of trying to figure what was a trap and what wasn't. They eventually learned that everything is trap and it all needs to be checked. If you ask if you character knows what a monster is and I say yes or have you roll for it, it is then OK to look it up online and apply your player knowledge at that point. Keep record of people you meet, they might just be important in the future.
