Obsidium

A refined metal found in the deep in the depths of mountains and volcanoes. Obsidium was formed millions of years ago back when lava and volcanoes covered the planet. This extremely rare and valuable metal has an incredible strength to weight ratio. Stronger and more flexible than refined springsteel and half the weight. Obsidium is also one of the few elements that can serve as a Catalyst and show no signs of degradation. Based on that scholars at the colleges have concluded that obsidium must be intrinsically resistant to Od and Manus. Only a small amount of obsidium has been harvested and processed into weapons or armor. The Mythic Artifacts are all created from a combination of obsidium and Bones of the Great Serpent  Obsidium is a charcoal black in color but with a similar sheen to real world obsidian in its unrefined state. When refined and polished it is solid black and shiny in appearance.

Properties

Shiny black metal, onyx in color. Half of the weight of even the finest steels and twice the durability and flexibility. Holds an edge exceptionally well and has claims of never going dull.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Resistant to all Od and Manus. Shows no signs on degradation from its use as a Catalyst, making it an amazing material for any magi who uses Infusion.

Geology & Geography

Harvested from incredible depths underneath the oldest mountains of Ostara.

Origin & Source

Formed during the volcanic activity millions of years ago in the early days of the planets formation. Believed to have come from the heavens in a meteorite

History & Usage

History

Only a small amount has been discovered thus far in history with the majority that is in use today was discovered thousands of years in the past. It is believed to have been discovered under Mount Rochecre located in the center of Terresant.

Discovery

Discovered long ago by the three monks who used obsidium to form the Mythic Artifacts.

Refinement

Must be refined in unbelievably hot forges. Requiring a staggering 3000 degrees Fahrenheit to first smelt and then shape the now refined metal, this heat is only possible through the use of manus.
