The Knights of the Crimson Covenant
Through the bustling crowd, you manage to find a friendly beacon of help to direct you. Standing on the corner keeping a watchful vigil, you see a tall human with broad shoulders wearing a dark red tabard over shiny, polished chainmail. He smiles as he greets you in a healthy, genuine way. As you ask for directions to the nearest teleportation circle, he places a hand on your shoulder and offers to lead you himself.
Structure
Every district is guarded by a platoon of Knights led by a Knight-Pillar, with the collection of a district's Pillars answering to a Knight-Exalt. All the Exalts in a layer of the city take orders from a Knight-Chosen. And the city's Chosen answer to the Overseer.
The Inquisitors and Exemplars follow the same structure, responding up through -Pillars and -Exalts up to the Overseer.
Public Agenda
The Knights publicly support only law enforcement for the betterment of the community. They seek to support all the social classes by enforcing an equal playing field as written by the laws and mandates of the city's Surapo mage-lords.
History
Originally formed as the religious brotherhood of the Knights of Marron's Blood Oath, they served as auxiliary guards to the Baronsguard and religious peacekeepers through several centuries of interreligious wars and strife. When the Surapo usurped control of the city and executed the Baronsguard still loyal to their old commander, they installed Marron's Blood Knights as the new city guard and forced the Baronsguard who would submit to take the Oath. As their religious basis was shifted, they no longer were Marron's Children in name although a majority still are in faith.
