Lightning Log

Lightning logs are a type of wood that can be found in the heavily forested areas of Fordonia. The trees that this type of wood comes from are called Lightning Trees. They are called this because they give off jolts of electricity that leap a short distance from the tree.    Lightning logs are most often used as a fuel source, as they burn longer than normal wood, and they produce more energy as well. The average lightning long burns for nearly three times the amount of time as a normal log, and produces about six times the amount of energy. They also glow brighter when burning as well, and even produce a faint glow at all times. This makes them very useful for lightning up very dark areas, as well as for saving resources.   Lightning trees are harvested using a special kind of ax called a Rubber Mallet. It is called this because the ax is actually two tools: the first is the actual ax, which is made entirely of rubber so as to avoid electrocuting oneself when attempting to cut down the tree, and the other is a large wooden mallet that is meant to apply a great amount of force onto the rubber ax. The goal of this is to uproot the lightning tree, rather than chop it up, so that it may be brought back to a mill for cutting. This process is much safer than trying to cut the tree directly, as even attempts to cut the trees with a non-metal ax often result in very powerful jolts of electricity flying from the severed tree bark into whomever is cutting the tree. At a mill, this danger is circumvented, even with the use of a metal ax, as no one is around the actual blade.   This type of wood is more expensive than regular wood, and this is due to the fact that it is superior to regular wood in nearly every regard, as well as the fact that it takes longer to produce. Those that buy lightning logs are happy to pay the extra costs, though, as the amount of money saved in the long run is well worth the increased price.
