Permitted Player Options

As we embark on our first Pathfinder 2e campaign, I wanted to give you some important guidelines regarding the selection of your character's abilities, spells, items, and other content. To ensure a smooth start and to align with the upcoming core refresh, we will be limiting our choices of content to the following sources:
  • Player Core 1
  • GM Core
  • Monster Core
  • Howl of the Wild
  • Player Core 2 (available starting August 1st)

Unreleased Content

  1. Content from Player Core 2: If your character class, ancestry, or archetype is included in Player Core 2, you are allowed to select abilities, spells, items, and other content associated with them. However, please note that you will need to switch to the updated versions as soon as the new material becomes available.
  2. Adjustments Post-Release: If a close match to your current content is available in Player Core 2, you will be required to switch to the new version. In cases where an exact match is not available, we will find the closest equivalent.
  3. Legacy Content: Should a suitable equivalent not exist in the new material, you will be allowed to retain your legacy content. However, we aim to keep these instances to a minimum to maintain consistency with the new core refresh.

General Guidelines

  • Feats: Your choices of feats will be limited to those found in Player Core 1, GM Core, Monster Core, Howl of the Wild, and Player Core 2. For feats associated with classes in Player Core 2, you will need to transition to the new versions as they become available.
  • Spells: Similar to feats, spells will also be limited to the mentioned sources. Transition to updated versions will be required when Player Core 2 is released.
  • Items: Magical items, equipment, and other character gear should also be selected from the approved sources. Updates to items will follow the same guidelines as other content.
  • Abilities: Class-specific abilities and features must align with the content in Player Core 1, GM Core, Monster Core, and Howl of the Wild, transitioning to Player Core 2 versions upon release.
  • Ancestries & Heritages: Your choices of ancestries & heritages will be limited to those found in Player Core 1, GM Core, Monster Core, Howl of the Wild, and Player Core 2. If your ancestry & heritage are included in Player Core 2, you will need to transition to the new version upon release.
  • Classes & Archetypes: Your choices of classes & archetypes should also be limited to the approved sources. If your class or archetype is included in Player Core 2, you will need to switch to the updated version as soon as it becomes available.
  • Backgrounds: Due to their straightforward nature and smaller impact on gameplay, your choices of backgrounds can be from any legacy options as well as those found in Player Core 1, GM Core, Monster Core, Howl of the Wild, and Player Core 2. They should still be selected to fit your character and Ortalon, so some options, particularly those tied to other settings, may not be permitted at GM's discretion.
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we transition to the refreshed core rules. This approach will help ensure that our campaign remains current with the latest content while also allowing you to enjoy the new features and enhancements introduced in Player Core 2.   If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. I'm looking forward to an exciting adventure together!
