Sethex

Ideals & Flaws

The Endless were born in Deus Gloria from mortalkind's cry for absolution from the tyrant forces of the world. A cry to be freed from the rule of Dragon lords, Giant kings, Fey sultans, and a host of other cruel and viscious masters. But though they were released from their bondage, their fear of these monsters was remembered and it was powerful. So powerful that it gave birth to Sethex, the god of terror and monsters. The god of despair and woe. God of pain. God of suffering and cruelty.   Sethex is depicted in the Canticles of Light by the solars of Elysium as a great red dragon resting atop a mountain of charred, black bones. He is the anathema of his siblings. A god so reviled and hated that his only succor comes from the curses spoken of his name. Sethex seeks to break mortal spirits. To crush them into dust. To flay their skin and drag them kicking and screaming through fields of salt and jagged rocks. His hatred for mortals is so great that his divine essence resides in Hades where it labors to invent new methods of torture yet undreamed of.   While it would be easy to dismiss Sethex as a truly evil god, like all of the Endless he serves a purpose for mortalkind and their hearts. It is Sethex who challenges men to put aside their differences and unite against a common, loathsome enemy. It is the god of punishment who tortures those mortal souls whose wickedness in life damns them to the fires of Hades. It is Sethex who embodies all of of mortal rage, hatred, and violence; And by residing within the bosom of this one hated god it spares his siblings from having their own domains tainted with these twisted attributes for are not all men made more content knowing that the god of death is also not the god of torture? Or that the god of mercy is also not the god of monsters?   Though Sethex is reviled and hated, he has more followers than many of his other kin, for there are those in the world who see chaos as a ladder to be climbed, and among all sentient monsters Sethex is the promise that they have not been forgotten.

    Temples & Priesthoods

Temples and shrines to Sethex are often built by sentient monster races who live in communities and societies such as Orcs, Giants, and Hobgoblins. These profane sites are dressed in the colors of red and black in honor of the god of monsters and offer offerings of slain animals, burnt human remains, skulls, teeth, and other macabre fetishes of proof that mortal lives have been snuffed out in his name.   The priesthood of Sethex practice dark magic such as the casting of curses, the raising of undead, and the spread of disease. They often take the roles of twisted shamans and wild magic sorcerers whose goals are to invigorate their tribes and warriors with dark boons in order to better despoil the civilized world. They are the trusted advisors of brutal warlords who plot and scheme against mankind. Those few mortals who are called to the faith of Sethex do so in secret or in the company of apocalyptic cults. They are often serial killers, murderers, and dark magic users whose goals are to inflict suffering, and gather power at any cost.
