Gozrah

Ideals & Flaws

The Goddess of Storms devoured more of her brethren in Deus Gloria than any other Endless. Her domains are the winds, the rains, the oceans, lightning, and storms. Her powers command the earth and all the waters that flow through it. She is a terrible, capricious Goddess that is quick to anger and difficult to appease. She is respected and feared by all in the realms for she has the power to end civilizations by thirst alone, and can sweep away cities with howling winds. Few of the Endless command such power over every day and hour of mortal life as Gozrah.   Because Gozrah's domains are so integral to life in the world of Orr, her priesthoods command a great deal of power, especially among desert-dwellers and those who live upon the coasts. Gozrah demands many offerings in her name, and those who are wise will comply or suffer. She is not beloved, nor does she wish to be. She is a fierce diety prone to incredible, and unexpected miracles as often as her terrifying dennouncements. Those who anger her will rue the day, and those who prove themselves shall find fair-weather no matter where they go.   Gozrah's divine essence dwells over the prime material plane and thus her sacred artifact, the Staff of Seven Rivers dwells here as well. This powerful foci has time and time again been placed into the hands of worthy mortals and been used for both heroic and ignoble deeds. It is considered one of the most powerful magical artifacts in the world of Orr and can only be possessed by one who has gained the favor of the Goddess of Storms. Any who lay hand on the staff and are deemed unworthy will bring about a slow but inevitable calamity.

    Temples & Priesthoods

The priesthood of Gozrah wear blue, black, and green colors in her honor. They build temples of marble near the coasts and windy heights of the world that they fill with hanging chimes and woodblocks so that when the wind courses over it the power of Gozrah is announced. They are some of the most powerful clerics and druids in the realms. All men of every society and every station pay homage to these temples in the way of offerings; Whether it is food, materials, clothing, or simply money which they can give. These temples are filled with gold and treasure, but only a fool or a Dragon would ever think to rob them.   The priests of Gozrah are selected using a mystic rite called the Dirigien Ritual which involves a baby being flung from the cliffs of a high place. If they are favored by Gozrah, the winds will catch them and return them safely. If they are not... the babe will be dashed against the rocks and killed.   Every ship that sails the oceans has a shrine to Gozrah somewhere aboard. No other working class is more aware of her power than the sailors upon an open sea. These shrines are often carved from soap, and depict a woman with the lower half of a snake erupting from the seafoam. They make daily prayers to these shrines for safe passage.
