Funeral of Governor Pierce Moreland

Life, Death

2595

The funeral for former St Lawrence governor Pierce Moreland (RCP) was held on St Lawrence. It was a widely attended event, with representatives of most major political families present and a huge turn out from members of the wider political class.

Commander August Solarin (IND) made a rare public appearance to pay respects to the former foreign and Treasury Secretary, whilst President Mina Carrero (ONX) also attended the event.
The eulogy was given by his daughter and heir, Duchess Lysa Moreland (RCP) who spoke of her father as a man with vision and the desire to unify the Terran people and make the Republic stronger. "My father was a man who saw the best in people and wanted to find a way to bridge the gaps and end conflict. He was not always successful and sometimes his ideas met resistance, sometimes intense unthinking reaction but he knew what was right and wrong and was not afraid to fight for it."
Further eulogies were given by former Senator Mathers Giury who hailed Governor Moreland as "an inspiration and a mentor" and former Vice President Branwyne Swayne (SDP) who said that "Mr Moreland was someone I always felt like it was possible to have a political debate without things getting bitter or brutal. He was a wise man and the Republic will miss him."
Alexandra Moreland made a splash at the funeral, speaking to many of the gathered dignitaries, confirming that she was returning to St Lawrence to continue Pierce's legacy.
There were a few notable snubs, however. Current St Lawrence Governor Carney Wenham (RHC) sent a member of his cabinet but said that "He had an important work to do that day." The Hansa CEOs also largely sent low ranking members to attend, with FDC notably sending no one at all.
With Pierce Moreland's passing, there will be major changes in the leadership of HCP and the wider Moreland corporate "Empire"
