De Bruyne Family

The De Bruyne family was a political dynasty from the 24th century. They became an outlaw dynasty in the 60's after founding a secessionist state.

Known History

The De Bruyne family are known for their ambition and their successful seeking of high political offices. Their reputation has been dented at times by their somewhat two-fisted approach to politics. Senator Valeri de Bruyne was vocal in her criticism of President Colby and of West-Corp for its handling of the "Food Distribution Crisis".
In 2340 Valeri de Bruyne announced that she was retiring from front-line politics. She was succeeded as family "scion" by Senator Jonas de Bruyne.
Senator Jonas de Bruyne was vocal, alongside his niece Governor Juliette de Bruyne, in supporting the dissident colonies during the crisis between 2360 and 2366. Senator de Bruyne was assasinated by right-wing extremists in 2366. He was succeeded as family scion by Governor Katerinna de Bruyne.
Katerinna de Bruyne helped to found the secessionist Union of Socialist Worlds in 2367 and she was named as First Citizen. She was killed by an orbital strike in 2368 which brought the Third Terran Civil war to an end.
She was succeeded by former Governor Juliette de Bruyne
Juliette de Bruyne was an exile, known to many as the Pirate Queen. She died in 2385 as an exile and was succeeded by "Black" Beatrice D'Arcy

Political Offices

Valeri de Bruyne was elected to the Confederate Union Senate in 2291. She was appointed to the League Executive Committee in 2325 and 2330. Jonas de Bruyne was elected to the Senate representing Mars in 2330.
In 2335 the De Bruyne family founded the socialist / marxist Universal Party. Senator Valeri de Bruyne was heavily involved in the 2335 election and was, to the surprise of the entire political community, named as Treasury Secretary. She was forced to resign after a leak from the administration in 2336.
Senator Jonas de Bruyne backed the Federalist ticket in 2340 and was rewarded by a role as Colonial Secretary. He was fired by the President in 2342 after controversial comments about the corporations.
Jonas de Bruyne was a major spokesperson for the Universal Party and their nominee for Vice President in 2350. However the ticket dropped out before the first ballot and endorsed the Federalist Party.
In 2355 Juliette de Bruyne was elected Governor of Van Diemen's World. In 2360 Katerina de Bruyne was elected Governor of New Corinth and emerged as a highly credible leader within the Federated States.
