The Cerulean Sign

Defenders against the extraplanar.

Structure

Palatine of the Material - Highest authority in the order, but only uses power in case of emergencies. Dukes of the Nations- National authorities of the order, of which there are 13. One for each country the Sign operates in. Barons of the Gates - Keepers of known gates to other planes. Command a lot of respect, even from the Dukes. Earls of Eyes - Operate underneath Dukes. They give out assignments to the rest of the order. Keepers - Foot soldiers of the order, but also refers to researchers or other supporting staff.

Culture

Serious, careful, loyal, and focussed on the task. Suspicious of anyone who could be a cultist.

To protect the material plane from extraplanar forces that threaten it.

Assets

Arms and armour, provided by the Dwarves of Smidagadr for fighting the beings from the Realms Below. Typically the order has a larger building in each of the capitals, to act as their headquarters and to house the Duke of that nation.  In Gunung, the headquarters of the Sign are located. It takes the shape of a castle, but one that has a long tunnel underneath it straight to the Realms Below.  The exact number of Keepers who form the largest part of the Cerulean Sign is known only to the Palatine, but the Dukes know how many are currently in their country.

History

After the discovery of the Realms Below in 3421, the need arose for a force to contradict the creatures that were coming up from the portals that connected the caverns to the Far Realm. The Cerulean Sign and its Keepers rose to the occasion, and these first Dwarves rebuffed the assault of the aberrations.
After a few years, the Cerulean Sign felt they had the situation somewhat under control in the Realms Below. They started looking outward, seeing all the destruction that creatures from other planes were causing their mortal realm, and decided to expand. Taking in more members and settling in other countries, they became the go-to guild for fighting and expelling the other-worldly around Vohga. 
A gate to the Abyss was opened in Lostrua in 3488. Keepers of the Cerulean Sign were on site within the hour and managed to block an invasion from taking place. The gate was closed soon after with the knowledge the order possesses.
