Rallanar

Roiler of the Sea and Carver of Paths

A member of the Elven pantheon and patron of Sea Elves. Most Elves don't live on or near the sea, and thus he is not very important in their lives, yet he retains a mystique to even the most land-bound of Elves. As with all gods, his domain consists of three aspects: a part of the sky (the North Triangle), an element of nature (the sea), and a social principle (travel).
  • The Northern Triangle is a close collection of three stars which are almost directly above the north pole. Their distinctive appearance and placement makes them ideal for seafarers and other travelers seeking their bearings at night.
  • As the Roiler of the Sea, he is responsible both for the boons granted by the sea (such as fishing yields) and the hazards, including natural disasters or just common shipwrecks. His aid is sought by travelers of all sorts, but simultaneously his attention is feared.
  • As the Carver of Paths, he oversees the fortunes of all who travel, even when they do so over land. By extension, he is also the favored god of merchants, who may attribute both their successes and their failures to his intervention.

Tenets of Faith

Orders devoted to Rallanar primarily maintain the coasts, keeping watchtowers and rescue boats in case of storms; they are also active in ports, where among the aforesaid duties they also keep track of travelers in and out and their trade goods. As such, these orders are foremost in census-taking throughout the empire.   Prayers made to Rallanar can be written on a variety of different materials, preferably ones of some value, which are then thrown into the sea. Finding one of these is considered good luck, provided the finder immediately returns it to the water.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

His official statue in the antechamber to the Hall of the Chosen is on the right of the entry corridor, between the statues of Ruandal and Sulrassil. It faces toward the center of the chamber while brandishing a golden sextant in its right hand, the left hand folded behind its back. Its features are those of a Sea Elf, and it has an expression that many have described as "smug". The statue is made of teak, clad in bronze mail, with eyes and hair of granite.

Apparel & Accessories

Bronze mail, carries a golden sextant.   Adherents wear blue-gray with bronze accents, the amount indicating their rank.

Mental characteristics

Morality & Philosophy

Rallanar's personality is very idiosyncratic and inconsistent: at times he will be warm and friendly, even with strangers; at others, he will treat his closest kin brash rudeness. He is not overly malicious, but tends to be careless, making spontaneous decisions that have massive unintended consequences. When someone does rile him, he is a terrifying force of vengeance.
