Cadlassa

Worker of Stone and Builder of Craftworks

A figure of some contention, he is one of the Elven gods, but is also worshiped by the Dwarves, who generally know him as Kadlacha. One of the younger gods to the Elves, the Dwarves see him as the progenitor to the long line of Stone Lords. The beliefs of the two groups have drifted apart over time, to the extent that the two visions of the god are seen as separate characters by some.

To the Elves

As an Elven god, his domain consists of three aspects: a part of the sky (the Hook), an element of nature (stone and earth), and a social principle (crafts).
  • The Hook is a small constellation resembling a tool of some sort, interpreted by many as a shepherd's crook, but by others as a mining pick, or one of many other things.
  • As the Lord of Stone, Cadlassa is responsible for nourishing the earth and creating fertile dirt from the unyielding stone. In turn, he is invoked and thanked for the bounty of the earth in the form of crops.
  • As the originator of crafts, he is the inspiration for invention, construction, refinement of materials, engineering, and all pursuits of the mind and hands that are not wholly artistic in nature.

To the Dwarves

The Dwarves see Kadlacha as the creator of the Lords of Stone they worship regularly, but tales vary wildly on how this creation occurred. The Dweregs more commonly tell that he took a primordial stone-like material and broke it into many pieces, bestowing his divine essence into each of them, so that they became alive. The Nain, who by and large still revere the Star-Lords, hold that the Stone-Lords are subsequent children of his marriage with Rallanar, after Ruandal and Hradlar. Among both peoples, there are numerous variations on each of these ideas. In any case, because Kadlacha himself is not present in the earthly minerals like the other Stone-Lords are, he is worshiped less frequently and seldom prayed to.

Tenets of Faith

Orders devoted to Cadlassa in Ehrania are the practitioners of nearly any industry. The most common are those who build earthworks for irrigation, residential development, military defense, or security against natural disasters such as floods and landslides. Orders of urban planning are also very common. Because Elves favor artistic merit more than efficiency, most craft workers in the Empire are not members of religious orders, but instead practice their work alone or as part of an independent master-apprentice chain. Those products which are produced in large quantities, particularly textiles and books, are made by adherents of Caralnis.   Prayers to Cadlassa are inscribed in stone or metal of a value proportionate to one's need, and buried at the site of a new construction or earthwork project.
Dwarves, being considerably less involved in their religion, do not actively worship Kadlacha. Because he is not associated with a specific type of stone, he is only invoked when the gods as a whole are mentioned.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Cadlassa's statue in the antechamber of the Hall of the Chosen stands to the left of the entrance, between the statues of Dorrelin and Hradlar. It is made of basalt, clad in chains of bronze and Adamantium, carrying an Adamantium hammer in its left hand and a pick in its right. Its features resemble those of a Nain with some more traditional Elven traits, including the lack of a beard.
Kadlacha is seldom depicted, but what representations exist show him as having definitive Nain features, with a thin, short beard. Statues of him are made out of the most valuable material available, preferably Orichalcum, usually clad in Ruacuprum and bearing tools made of Adamantium.

Mental characteristics

Intellectual Characteristics

Cadlassa's depiction is surprisingly consistent when adapted to the Dwarven perspective: in both traditions, he is obsessive with his work and not very social, though not deliberately unfriendly. He does not seek friendships, seeing every interaction as potential exchange, and useless if both parties don't stand to gain from the proceedings. In general, he seems to value work and its results as the greatest use of his time, though while the Elves see him as making powerful tools and weapons, the Dwarves attribute him mainly with the creation of the other gods.
