Wuldorgimm (Crystals)

Wondrous Item

Varies

Wuldorgimm is the name of the arcane crystals dotted around the world, with a high concentration around Cynelalond.   The Wuldorgimm can be used as an arcane focus, to improve the spells by 1d6 per spell level, but only if the spell is of the same school of magic as the gimm, if their schools differ you only gain 1d3 per spell level.   There are levels to each of the Wuldorgimm, and spells cast that are equal to or less then the level of the gimm work as normal, however if they are greater than the level, the gimm cracks and loses 1 hit point; except for level 10 wherein the Gimm loses 1 hit point per usage. Their hit points are as follows:
  • Level 1: 3
  • Level 2: 4
  • Level 3: 6
  • Level 4: 7
  • Level 5: 9
  • Level 6: 10
  • Level 7: 12
  • Level 8: 14
  • Level 9: 16
  • Level 10: 18
Their rarities are as follows:
  • Common: 1-3
  • Uncommon: 4-6
  • Rare: 7-8
  • Very Rare: 9
  • Legendary: 10

History & Usage

Refinement

As found the WuldorGimm are a nebulae crystalline state, they show properties of all the schools of magic. Additionally it is rumored that within the core of the spirit tree is a polymorphous liquid like state of the Gimm, a sort of fountain of gimm, both pure and slag.   When Gimms are found in this nebulae crystalline state, it takes a sort of fractioning-like process of seperating the difference essences and getting them in their base forms, and into defined crystalline forms consisting of a single school of magic. Additionally the quality/rarity of the Gimm is dependant on the quality of the sourced WuldorGimm, the quantity of the specific school of magical property, and the potency of the striata found within.

Hazards

The experiments on the Wuldorgimm tend to prove unstable, many things have been created as an accident due to a failed experiment. There have been a few races created on accident, as well as phenomena that were certainly undesired.

Distribution

Trade & Market

The royal family of cynelalond primarily, but also smaller secret organizations can sell samples. However these secret organizations can't access large or high quality gimm's, so they are often of a lower level and cheaper.

Storage

Any of the gimms used for spellcasting purposes as a focus can vary from being the size of a toe to a fist, and can easily be carried. However larger crystals exist that have been used in magical allaturgy, and can vary from a toe to a cart.

Law & Regulation

The Royals try to regulate it's trade to outside countries and governing systems, and try to regulate who mines it and where it is mined. However there are small organizations that mine and distribute it in secret of the royals.
