Mesbroers
Mesbroers is a word in the old tongue that translates literally as 'Knife Brothers', or more poetically 'Brothers of the Knife'. It properly refers to a pre-safe zone culture found in what is now the Coastal Safe Zone but is more often used as a descriptor of a particular appearance associated with that largely defunct culture.
Like all humanoid ethnicities it has been thoroughly mixed, both through familial ties and through cultural exchange, with a great many others. As might be expected from the name, the culture placed great importance on martial strength, in a time when that was a strict necessity for the survival of the local town. Echoes of that value system can be found in the martial attitudes of the Coastal Safe Zone to this day.
Typical Physical Appearance
The archetypical Mesbroers look is pale skin, with hair either a light brown or blond. This carries over into most species Mesbroers individuals grow into. The main exceptions are dwarves and carnonons, where the complexion darkens but the hair usually turns to platinum white. That shade of white, or streaks of it, is commonly referred to in those species as 'a touch of the knife', meaning the person has (possibly previous unknown) Mesbroers ancestry. Mesbroers nightshades lose their pale skin in favour of the ebony skin the species of known for, but they sometimes retain atavistic pale patches on their arms and legs. The reason for this is unknown.Culture
